Before the texture update, the Nether had a more disgusting look, reminiscent of blood and meat. In the Texture Update, the blocks were changed to have updated visuals. However, netherrack was changed to just be red rocks. The strangest part is that in the Nether Update, netherrack was given fleshy sounds upon walking on it but retained its rock texture.
During Update Aquatic snapshots, there were multiple packs created by texture artist Jappa that changed netherrack (and various other blocks). My personal favourite is the one that uses the old netherrack with actual shading and details, which is used in this pack.
I missed the grotesque nether, so I made this resource pack using Jappa's old netherrack textures. Enjoy!
