Because they didnt style or describe the runic gods good enough and didnt even look like those in the movies, Thor was usually dressed in a light brown leather skirt like coat in read trousers.
and with red orangish hair and beard and didnt wear a helmet usually, but he did wear armor, except not when he isnt doing work, and was alot more cheerful. You wont need information about à ðinn.
I think it's important to realize that Stan Lee's and Jack Kirby's adaptation of Thor is only very loosely based on Norse mythology. And considering the character himself is mythological, there's no reason why they couldn't take some creative liberty with his attire.
