a young mermaid saves the life of a handsome prince and subsequently falls in love with him, she trades her tail in for a pair of legs to try and woo the prince, but basically, the prince was a bit of a douchebag in the Hans Christian Anderson novel and treats the little mermaid: like some arm candy until some other chick comes along and he's like heeeyyy i have a palace whatsupp with you! this breaks the little mermaid's heart and so her sisters cut off their hair and trade it with the sea witch in exchange for a shiny stabbin' dagger after the prince rejected the little mermaid's love, the sisters offer her a dagger to save her life and kill the prince, not wanting to take the life of the man she was so deeply in love with she walks into the sea and turns into sea foam. she really didn't handle rejection well.
