M'ling is the first non-human creature you see in the science fiction novel written by H.G. Wells The Island of Dr.Moreau,a well-known classic.

The first apparition of M'ling, the humanised animal being, is during a scene happening in a ship, in direction of Moreau's Island transporting a puma destinated to be a part of some experiment, although the main character Edward Prendick doesn't know it. He describes Mongtomerys' (Moreau's assistant) domestic as a difform human on disproportionally short legs, with his head sunk between his two broad yet curvy shoulders . His eyes seem to glow green in the dark, which is a rather inhuman feature. M'ling wears a dirty bluish marine blouse and a grey headgear. His way to move is noticed as rather clumsy.

All the sailors, the captain of the ship included (who are almost all the time on alcohol) hate him because he's different and he smells.
other than his awkward appearance, M'ling is a quite sympathetic being and the friend of his master, he wouldn't hurt a fly. On the other hand he is surely not a thinking brain...

M'ling is there during almost all the story untill the end when he is murdered by a half-human-half-hyena-half-pig creature.

He is believed to be the first creation of the mad scientist, the Dr.Moreau. He would have been , in his previous life a gorilla untill moreau sculpted his body (by proceeds we don't really want to know) and brainwashed him to blind him with "the law that shall not be infridged" like all the other creatures.



About the skin
: as you can see, the highlight and the shadows are rather complex uncanny on this skin but each color, they have a precise meaning : the azur blue atmosphere color symbolises the ocean, that one big blue that surrounds the island of the dr.Moreau. The mint green highlight stands for the forest that covers the whole island. The skin in general is rather dark, and there is a reason ; M'ling as well as all the other humanised animal brutes live in a cave-like canyon in the which light is monopolised by the trees of the upper ground.
