[REQUIRES THE CONQUEST REFORGED MODPACK (1.20.1) AND VICTORY MOD]

- The Project -

Pervalle is my very first project using the Conquest Reforged Modpack, an incredible modpack which greatly extends the possibilities of Minecraft building and allows for extremely realistic builds. This project, when I started almost a year ago, was just meant to be something small to allow myself to learn the mod, but of course, like all my projects, it ended up being much, MUCH bigger than I initially planned. Of course, this being my first project using the mod, quality differs quite a bit throughout the town, as I've learned a lot since starting. It is quite satisfying to see the improvement of my building skills as I walk through the town, though. Finally, the inspiration behind this whole project was a trip to southern France that I went on last year, with the main locations that Pervalle was based on being two towns from the French Maritime Alps: Entrevaux and Puget-Théniers (along with Castelnaud from Dordogne for the castle). I am overall very satisfied with how this town turned out and I am very excited to share it with you all.

- Lore / History -

Since I've been building this for so long, I've had a lot of time to come up with history for this town, so I'll share this history here. Pervalle is a fictional town in the French Maritime Alps, set in the year 1590. Pervalle, in the beggining, was a small Roman trading outpost, which was abandoned after the Western Roman Empire fell. The name of Pervalle originates from this period, originally being Per Vallem, meaning "across the valley". The site of Pervalle was left vacant for a few centuries until the 8th century, when a Frankish aristocrat named Childeric chose the location, which had great natural defenses, to build a manor. This manor was fairly large for its time, and so a small town gradually began to grow around the manor to support it. Practically nothing remains from this early period. Only two buildings are left: the Chapelle des Martyrs, which used to be directly attached to the manor, and the Witch's House, named this way because of its original owner, a wealthy widow related to the lord of the manor, who was executed for witchcraft later in her life.

Childeric's original manor lasted until the late 10th century, when it was demolished to build another residence away from the growing town of Pervalle. They chose the crest of a hill South of the town as the location of their new residence; this is where Pervalle's castle now sits. The rapidly growing town of Pervalle quickly expanded over the now vacant area where the old manor once was. As the town grew, a new need for better defenses arose, and so a wall was erected around the town, parts of which still remain today, especially on the western end of the town. The Old Town Gate, which was once part of this wall, now sits in the middle of Grand'rue des Longes, Pervalle's main thoroughfare, and can be seen in the 6th image of the image gallery above.

From the 11th to the 14th century, Pervalle grew to become an important center of the region. This period is when the cathedral of Pervalle, Nostre-Dame-de-l'Assomption, was constructed, and is also when most of the current iteration of Pervalle's castle was built. Moreover, it is in the early decades of this period that the slum in the South of the town first emerged. This slum was mostly populated by Jewish migrants who settled here and were forced into a ghetto outside the town wall, which now constitutes the slum. This is a heavily impoverished area, mostly avoided by anyone other than it's unfortunate residents.

The Black Death in the mid 14th century plunged Pervalle into a dark age that lasted a few decades. The disease took the life of a very large portion of the population, which caused the town's industries to stagnate and made many homes in the town vacant and abandoned, which gave Pervalle a grim appearance. The town slowly healed as the 15th century progressed. In this period, the Middle Ages gave way to the Renaissance, which brought many new ideas to Pervalle. This could be seen in Pervalle's architecture, which changed dramatically with the Renaissance. Instead of the old stone and half-timbered buildings of the Middle Ages, new colourful and more orderly buildings started to spring up, aligning with the ideas of this new age. The renaissance brought a new period of growth and prosperity to Pervalle, which has lasted until the present day, in 1590. To accomodate the growing town, the entire eastern section of the old town wall was demolished and a new gate was constructed, which was built across the bridge that crosses the gorge that gives Pervalle its name. This new gate includes a lesser gate on the other side of the bridge for further defense.

This concludes the lore I've come up with for this project. I personally think that it gives the place a lot more life and makes the whole town more compelling. I hope you've found this interesting!

Ohh that is so cool! Thanks a lot, also!

I do recommend installing victory mod if you ever feel like revisiting, though, as you are missing out on a lot of blocks. I love that you've uploaded this, though, it's a cool feeling to see somebody else exploring your map!
