What is The Retreat?
It's where the Kreutzer family go for their holidays. You see, the Kreutzer family are very fond of the violin and its study, and so they spend much of their time playing complex exercises and strange scales. They've developed their own etudes (simply: violin exercises) and they play them every single play of every single month and they get extremely irritating, so their neighbours politely asked them to "shut up". And so they did. They now own this little house, which they happen to like quite a bit more than their old one.
So, that's the backstory I just made up :D
