Finished 2 out of 3 with close calls. First picture is rendered by Jduartemiller.
Welcome to my 120hour speedbuild contest entry hosted by Jduartemiller.
I have made Kinkaku-ji or ¨Temple of the golden pavilion¨. For detailing the wooden structure of the build I scaled the building by three times. With that I have used a scale of 3:1. For the building, the main goal, it worked out. Not for the trees really.
What is Kinkaku-ji?
Kinkaku-ji is a zhen buddhist temple in Japan. It is located on the grounds of the Rokuon-ji temple complex. This complex is one of the seventeen ¨Historic monuments of anciant Kyoto World heritage site¨. It is a busy tourist attraction as seen in the Google streetview. Although the temple itself is not accesible for tourists.
The temple itself is made of three layers. From which the lowest layer only interior is foundable from this picture. The first floor/layer is designed with the ¨shinden-zukuri¨ style. The name of the first floor is ¨The Chamber of Dharma Waters¨. The second floor is based on the ¨samurai/buke-zukuri¨ style and the floor is called ¨The Tower of Sound Waves¨. The last floor is builded in the traditional ¨zen¨ style or ¨zenshū-butsuden-zukuri¨. The floor is called ¨Cupola of the Ultimate¨.
The temple lies on a pond in a sunker area giving the feeling of a hidden/sheltered sanctuary. The pond contains 10 islands from tiny towards noteworthy. The islands are arranged in a specifick way to illustrates several famous places in japanes literature. The pond a la garden is a typicial strolling garden or kaiyū-shiki-teien type.
The original Kinkaku-ji temple was originally a villa called ¨Kitayama-dai¨. The villa belonged towards a powerful statesman. The complex first appeared in history in the year 1397 by the sale of the complex towards the shogun who renamed it towards the current name.
The current temple is not the same as in 1397. On July 2 1950 a monk burned down the pavilion. In 1955 the main parts were restored of the pavilion. The roofs were only restored decades later in 2003. In the mean time the pavilion got a new layer of golden coating.

Thanks for the huge compliment as you have seen it in real-life :-)
Try your next asian build with a blown up scale. That's the secret of this build. I used a 3:1 scale, very usefull for detailing.
I have to watch some youtube videos before i start :-)
