hi! this is a sketch i did last month that i really loved!



being in uni is soooo exhausting but it feels sooooooo worthwhile when your efforts turn into good (and sometimes miraculous) rewards! i learned this the hard way recently at this previous wave of exams!! was an emotional mess for sure! i'm better now though...

its so easy to compare yourself with ur overqualified peers (cs major moment) but powering through anyway is what keeps the college experience attractive... and the numerous amount of social events i've went to as i grind calculus or something else through it! been pretty proud of myself lately with how uni is going but it learning to accept failure is a skill im slowly learning!

okay! art time. i think i was trying to experiment with side profiles??? then the sketched kinda turned into that. thats all really lol... pretty happy with how it went though! im still soooo scared of coloring but i think its partly because of the digital medium. being traditionally restricted really helps getting color down but in a digital space its so easy to get caught up in the details and then im never satisfied qwq

New skin! This one was tricky to make. So many layers to his outfit (two collars!), and shading very light and dark colors needs a light hand. The hair was fun, though. I had a very limited value range to work with for his light blond hair, so I tried a technique I see sometimes in artwork where rather than forcing the base color to be darker than the highlight (which would compromise the true color of the character), the borders of the highlight are darkened and blended into the base.

I'm working on a skin tutorial about a topic that is very fascinating to me: 3D form and how it relates to shading. This is not something I see covered often, and if it is, it's only mentioned in passing. I wanted to get it done in time for the Skintorials Jam, but with the time I have remaining, I just don't think it will be able to measure up to the quality standards I have in mind. I don't want to submit something rushed that doesn't actually help the aspiring skinner learn. So yeah, no entry from me this time around. But you can look forward to a compete tutorial blog that really gives the topic the attention it deserves, sometime in the near future. Good luck to all the participants!
