Sometimes when I get ideas I write them down on a sticky note and slap it on a bulletin board so I remember it later. It sounds like a good idea, except I completely forget the context behind the ideas every time I check the bulletin board.

What the hell did I mean by "zombie batman sniffer mob skin"

When I'm bored and can't sleep, for some reason I end up researching a random thing that I find interesting. Well, it's currently 3 AM (5 after writing this) and I still can't sleep, so here's the story of the Titanic's far superior sister, the RMS Olympic.

Note that I am not an expert on this subject, I just found it interesting, there may be some inaccuracies so don't quote me on any of this.

In 1911, White Star Line's latest and greatest ship, the RMS Olympic, finished construction. 882 feet long and over 45 thousand tons, the Olympic at the time was not only the largest ship, but the largest moving man made thing ever constructed.

The same year it finished construction, the Olympic successfully completed its first voyage (already making it better than the Titanic) from Southampton, England to New York City. The ship attracted a huge amount of visitors while it was docked in NYC because of how massive and amazing it was.

On its fifth voyage, the RMS Olympic had a collision with the HMS Hawke, a British naval cruiser. Because the Hawke was designed to ram enemy ships, its bow ripped two large holes in the Olympic's hull, one of which was below the water line, flooding two watertight compartments and twisting a propellor shaft. The HMS Hawk suffered severe damage to its bow and nearly sank. Despite the damage, both ships were able to make it back to safety and were successfully repaired.

In April of 1912, the second ship of the Olympic-class ocean liners finished construction: The RMS Titanic. To put it simply, the Titanic was identical to the Olympic but much more luxurious. As we all know, the Titanic set sail on its maiden voyage, hit some ice, and sank. While this was happening, the Olympic was on a return trip from New York. The Olympic's crew received distress calls from the Titanic and set course to help. When the Olympic was roughly 100 miles away from the Titanic's last known location, it was told to turn back by the captain of the RMS Carpathia, as it had already handled the survivors. When the Olympic's crew offered to help carry the passengers, the Carpathia declined as there were concerns about the survivors being sent home on a ship identical to the one they just watched fall to the ocean floor.

After the Titanic went down, lots of people were concerned about the safety of the Olympic. As a quick fix, old collapsible lifeboats from naval troopships were added to the ship. Many of the ship's firemen went on strike in protest because the "new" lifeboats absolutely sucked (which was true), some people were quickly hired to make up for the loss, more crew members were upset as the new people were underqualified, some sailors left and were arrested for mutiny, and then were let go as White Star was afraid that the public would be upset about them arresting people for worrying about safety.

In October of 1912, the Olympic was pulled from service to be refitted. To put it simply, they tripled the number of actual lifeboats, made the hull thicker around the engine and boiler rooms, made the watertight bulkheads bigger, added more cabins, cafés, and private bathing facilities. The refit made the ship safer, more luxurious, and also let it regain the title of the largest ship, as it was now roughly 111 tons heavier than the Titanic was. The Olympic resumed service in early 1913.

In late 1914, Britain entered WW1. The ship remained as a civilian operated ocean liner, but as a wartime precaution, it was painted grey and had its deck lights shut off to be less visible.

In October of the same year, as the Olympic was on its last wartime commercial voyage, it received a distress call from the battleship HMS Audacious. The ship had hit a German naval mine and was going down, so the Olympic changed course to help rescue the crew. After the crew was evacuated, they attempted to tow the Audacious but gave up after the line broke three times. The battleship sank.

In 1915, White Star intended to have the Olympic dock and stay put until the war was over, however a shortage of ships in the Royal Navy forced it to join the navy as a troop transport ship. The Olympic was stripped of its luxurious interior, repainted, equipped with cannons and artillery, and redesignated as the HMT Olympic (Hired Military Transport). The ship did some stuff during the war but I won't go into detail there except for the actual interesting bits.

Side note, the camouflage used here is called dazzle camo, and it's meant to confuse the enemy. In theory, the paint job would make it difficult to tell which part of the ship the enemy is looking at, and thus nearly impossible to attack because the enemy wouldn't know where to aim to hit it. Of course, this didn't always work, as it obviously isn't used anymore.

By late 1915, the third and final ship of the Olympic class ocean liners was completed: The HMHS Britannic. The ship was requested to join the navy before it finished production, so in the end it was built as a naval hospital ship. It surpassed both the Olympic and Titanic in size and weight, however it wasn't the largest ship as Germany had built a bigger ocean liner following the Olympic's refit. There's not much to say about the Britannic as it hit a naval mine and sank during the war.

I feel bad for the Britannic. It was going to be the biggest, baddest ocean liner of all time, but it never got the chance.

Anyway, back to our boy, the Olympic.

In early 1918, The Olympic was heading to France in the English Channel when it spotted a surfaced German U-boat preparing to launch torpedoes. The Olympic opened fire immediately and set course to ram the sub, which dropped into the water and turned to parallel the massive freaking ocean liner charging it. The Olympic hit the U-boat, slicing the sub's hull. The U-boat's crew abandoned it and were picked up by another British ship, as the Olympic just kept going on its voyage to France. The Olympic suffered some dents to the hull but was otherwise unscathed.

Lemme just restate what I said there: THE TITANIC'S SISTER RAMMED AND SANK A FREAKING SUBMARINE. Why is the Titanic the famous one? It couldn't complete a SINGLE VOYAGE. It's sister is out here FIGHTING SUBMARINES AND WINNING, yet the Titanic gets ALL the attention.

Anyway, the Olympic's service in the war rightfully earned it the nickname "Old Reliable."

After the war, in 1919, the Olympic was restored to its former glory as a luxurious ocean liner, with some improved engines. As the Olympic was now the only one of its class, White Star acquired two German ocean liners as part of war reparations. The ships served together as the grand luxury cruisers they were, until the Great Depression hit.

The post-war RMS Olympic (left) next to one of the newly acquired German liners, the RMS Majestic (right)

In 1934, the Olympic did it again. For context, lightships were used at this time to mark where ports are in places where lighthouses couldn't be built. Large ocean liners often sailed very close to these lightships. I think you can see where this is going. The Olympic struck the Nantucket Lightship due to heavy fog, slicing the lightship apart and sinking it. The Olympic responded very quickly with rescuing the surviving crew, but that was unfortunately only 7 of the lightship's 11 people.

In 1935, the Olympic was pulled from service and retired due to expenses of the Great Depression and to make way for newer and more efficient ships.

    In summary, the RMS Olympic:
    - Was built as the largest ship ever constructed
    - Completed over 200 round trips across the Atlantic
    - Ran for 24 years
    - Survived 3 collisions with other ships
    - Survived WW1
    - Outlived all of the other ships of its class
    - Rammed and sank a freaking submarine
    - Earned the nickname "Old Reliable"
    - Ended service because the global economy sank before it did

And yet the Titanic is more famous because it failed to complete a single voyage.

I'm gonna try to sleep again now.

Bread is an amazing food, there's a bread for almost any occasion. Breakfast? Cook it again, toast. Lunch? Put some random things from the fridge on it, sandwich. Dinner? Have a roll on the side. Quick snack? Literally just take some and eat it. It comes in all shapes and sizes, I mean we got slices, loafs, buns purposely shaped for various uses, bagels, rolls, sticks, muffins, biscuits, crackers. You wanna have a quick meal? There's bread for that. You wanna have an overly complicated 5 star quality meal? There's bread for that. You want a simple salad? There's bread for that. You wanna smack your buddies in the head with a long object without actually hurting them? There's bread for that. Corn? There's bread for that. It's great.

I wasn't much of a fan of the sniffer texture. It looks great, but it feels like it's from a 64x HD texture pack, not vanilla Minecraft.

So I downscaled it (and then fixed everything because the sniffer has almost entirely odd number dimensions)

Edit: It's now posted as a texture pack, Non-HD Sniffers

Finally checked out the new update after avoiding spoilers, long story short: I love this. Also going in blind on a server that recently updated was a lot of fun, I found a custom villager someone set up that was selling netherite upgrade smithing templates and my brain just bluescreened when I saw it because I was NOT expecting that to be a thing.

As an amateur texture pack creator, I'm very excited after seeing the texture files. There's files for the armor trim color palettes! Unlike dyed leather, the trims aren't just gray and the color gets generated in-game, there's actual textures for the colors used in each armor trim! And the trims themselves are just simple overlays using the same model as armor (which makes perfect sense, idk what else I was expecting). I can tell there's gonna be some fun texture packs made with this soon.

Oh yeah and PMCSkin3D may not have the Sniffer in it yet, but I do have the file. Time to update the old joke packs.

Edit: Camels too, completely forgot those existed, I still haven't seen one lol

Edit 2: I have now seen a camel, I love it

I have learned how to make 3D models for Minecraft >:)

Now a smart person when doing something like this for the first time would look up a tutorial to figure out how to use the software and how the files work, then start small with a simple test model to get a feel for how it works.

I am not a smart person. I went in blind and trial and error'd my way into making this toaster.

Considering that this is my first model, I'd say it's not bad.

Only problem is that the game doesn't load full blocks next to it, but I'm pretty sure that's the game still rendering the toaster as a full block (it's a furnace) and not my incompetence

I had a dream last night about a Minecraft update, thought I'd share it here

The update added a new biome to the Nether: The Shelf

The Shelf is a bunch of flat netherrack layers, each layer being 1 block thick with 2 blocks of open space between them. The open spaces were filled with rattlers, a new block

A rattler is like a combination of a skulk sensor and a cactus. It rattles and makes noise if you get too close, it does damage if you touch it, and you can't place blocks touching them. Unlike skulk sensors, it's triggered by distance, not sound. A rattler being triggered has a small chance to set off other nearby rattlers, so sometimes it will start a chain reaction and set off every rattler in The Shelf.

If you go walk or sprint near a rattler it will trigger, but you can get much closer by crouching. If you go less than a block's distance from a rattler, it will trigger no matter what.

Being near a rattler gives you a massive mining fatigue debuff, so breaking them is nearly impossible

oh also they looked like rattlesnake tails

The rattlers essentially formed a maze between each layer of The Shelf, and there's chests with really good loot deep within The Shelf. I don't remember what exactly was in the chests, but it was good enough to make it worth it

If you trigger too many rattlers, they all retract into the ground (taking the chests with them), and it spawns a Nether Dragon.

I have no idea what the Nether Dragon does because I woke up right after it spawned
