a soul is you, and your body is a vessel for your being.
i do not know to the extent how much your soul interacts with reality, but i know that i have one simply because i am a singular conscious being rather than a developing program, as programs do not live they simply ponder respond and react.
it would be a very reasonable development to assume that all people exist as themselves in this reality.
Since you are yourself, but your brain can be altered and parts even removed yet you still remain seated inside your own vessel of being that means your soul is more than just your brain.
Since we are a culmination of all current experienced thoughts, we must be more than our thoughts and our metaphysical existence must be receiving that information or else we would simply be drones, or essentially irl npcs, as i have prevoiusly established you are yourself and a person cannot be a drone.
i am also sure that our soul is not our memories, because our souls are constantly receiving stimuli of simply existing, but that stops once we stop thinking about something. meaning that because these things are not interacting with our soul any longer, could not be your soul.
The best way to describe our life is that we play a character.
we learn about ourselves and our thoughts, we have the ablilty to expirence the moment, but we can replicate our past experience in a slightly distorted sense (because memory isnt perfect, and some people dont have the ability to see, hear or smell past thoughts) which is why we dont just experience the emotions of our previous thoughts, but we recontextualize our emotional response to past stimuli because our brain changes.
this next part will assume that objects do not have souls which i know is not a universally believed idea but bear with me
there appears to be a correlation between living things and experiencing thoughts at a beyond reactionary and pondering response
there are quintillions of particles in the universe but i happen to be alive, and on top of that i experience my own thoughts beyond simple ponder and react responses, and i will go out on a limb to say that you guys are also alive and experience the world from your own point of view.
which because there are no living robots, and no consciousness in them beyond programming, these 2 things are likely to be connected, living and souls.

its really hard to write about consciousness because so many words have different definitions
i decided to use the world soul but i am using it in a way that is synonymous with spirit
