Ethos: A Minecraft Guild for Others

Our Purpose

Our purpose is best outlined in the order’s Ethos as stated above; however, to better explain our intentions, below is a short summation of our goals and beliefs: We firmly believe Minecraft is among the most predominant gaming platforms with regards to both entertainment and education. The Order of Vitruvius desires to revitalize Roman and Greek architecture on a massive scale in order to promote awareness and education of the style. We have witnessed a decline in the publication of high quality free-to-explore maps and builds possessing classical architecture in recent years, and we hope through the usage of social media platforms and the consolidation of the best classical architects in Minecraft that we can change this situation for the better.

The Order of Vitruvius is a purely philanthropic builders’ guild: meaning that our primary focus is to share our knowledge and/or builds to the public in order to give back to the greater minecraft community. The Order of Vitruvius is not primarily interested in revenue or fame, but rather we are focussed on the providing of meaningful and quality works in the hopes of inspiring younger Minecraft players.

We recognize the intrinsic beauty of classical architecture, and we desire to share such beauty in the most realistic and detailed ways possible in the confines of Minecraft. Through this idea, we hope to inspire, educate, and nurture the next generations of possible architects or hobbyists in their love for antiquity.

Membership

Membership to The Order of Vitruvius is purely invitational and consists of two categories of members: active architects and honorary architects. It is the responsibility of the President and Vice President of the order to invite active and honorary architects.

Active architects are active Minecraft builders who specialize in classical architecture and actively publish their work. Active architects must possess a high level of dedication and quality to their projects. Active architects must also believe in the Ethos of The Order of Vitruvius in the hopes of educating, inspiring, and nurturing the next generations of architects and classical hobbyists.

Honorary architects consist of multiple categories of people: active Minecraft builders who do not specialize in classical architecture but possess a significant following and publicly support our Ethos; former active architects of The Order of Vitruvius; notable educators who support our Ethos and employ our work in their teachings; and loyal benefactors who believe in our Ethos and provide continued support to grow The Order of Vitruvius’ reach and resources.

Benefits

Active or honorary architects should not expect to receive monetary or advertising benefits from The Order of Vitruvius. The guild is purely philanthropic with a calling that is greater than individual interests and desires. However, there are two non-tangible benefits to being a member: you get to collaborate and be amongst the greatest classical architects in Minecraft, and you get the opportunity to selflessly promote the welfare and education of youth and future generations through technology.
