Somebody said it would be an interesting mechanic if Moss could dry out due to lack of water, which is basically exactly how Coral works. So now it does exactly that!

Player placed blocks of Moss will die if water isn't touching any of its sides and it will be replaced with now (badly) retextured hay blocks.

that's it you can leave now
CreditNobody, just me, you're welcome for the aweful textures
CompatibilityMinecraft 1.17

Does this work for already placed blocks? Like blocks already in the world before the datapack was installed or non-placed blocks? Cause if so I really want to know how this was done.

I mean it could probably be done with a frick ton of raytracing in loaded chunks but that would probably be really laggy

I feel it would be better if it only dried out in dry climates, nether, desert, badlands, and savannah

that would be interesting, and also make moss undriedable if it touches water again, or is exposed to rain, or maybe even dripstone water drips
