Another story blog! hope you enjoy!

Steve had planned for a quick trip to the nether to gather brewing supplies, but he didn’t know that he would find much more than nether wart and glowstone dust. Humans had been exploring the nether for many years, but one thing they thought they knew, was that the environment was too hostile to support intelligent life. But when Steve discovered the first ever nether structure of unknown origin, everyone was curious and amazed. It didn’t look very old, no more than a year or two, but it was abandoned, and in some places it was unfinished, as if it’s construction had been interrupted and it’s builders had fled.

Steve had discovered the structure, which he called a “nether fortress”, in the unexplored reaches of the nether where no one had ever been before. At least, no one they knew of. When Steve walked around a large netherrack formation and saw the fortress, he was wary, but he wondered what was inside. It was very likely that there were monsters inside that no one had ever fought before. He approached the fortress, apprehensive of what was to come.

The fortress contained many maze-like hallways and corridors that twisted and turned left and right, and sometimes doubled back on themselves. It was almost as if the structure was designed to confuse anyone who was not familiar with it’s layout.

He had not been exploring more than a half hour when he found something he would have never believed possible. Inside a chest at the corner of two hallways was his own saddle, which he had lost on a previous adventure in the nether. There was no doubt it was his. His name was written on it. The only possibility was that it had been found by the builders of this fortress, and stored in this chest. Yet more evidence that the structure had been built recently, but who could have built it?

Steve’s question was answered when he heard a clattering sound from behind him. At first he thought it was just a skeleton, but he soon realized that it was no ordinary skeleton. It was taller, and it was wielding a stone sword, But most terrifying of all, was that it’s bones were pitch black, as if charred. It was possible that this creature had helped to build the fortress when it was still alive. Steve fought the strange skeleton and killed it, then he began to retrace his steps back to his portal. A location like this would have to be explored by a team.

When Steve returned to the overworld, he found something almost as peculiar as what he had found in the nether. He had built a small house in the wilderness to live in while he was away from his home city of Osokkos, and tacked to the door of his temporary shelter with an arrow, was a strange note that read:

At noon tomorrow when thunder sounds,
And sends a shockwave through the ground,
Come seek us at our mountain home,
Be quick, for you have far to roam.

His only clue to the identity of the note’s author was the design of the arrow, which was crudely made, probably by the pillagers. As it was getting close to sunset, Steve went to sleep to await the noon of the next day. Steve awoke early the next morning. He had decided that “far to roam” meant that he would embark on some sort of adventure, so he ate breakfast, and began to pack. He was brewing potions of healing when he happened to glance at his clock and realize that it was almost noon. Steve thought that “when thunder sounds”, signified a thunderstorm, but the sky was as clear as it had been all week.

Just as the sun reached its highest point in the sky, a tremendous earth-shaking boom shook toward steve from the north. Steve quickly finished packing and began his journey. For days, Steve hiked through forests, boated across oceans and traversed many other biomes until he came to a mountain range that seemed as good as any.

In the air, he felt a sort of disease, as if all the life had been expelled from the area by an unseen evil entity. The diseased feeling strengthened as he approached the tallest mountain in sight, so he supposed that was the right way to go. After another hour or two of climbing and descending peaks, Steve finally came to the summit of his target mountain. At the top of the mountain was the mouth of a cave, from which the diseased, withering feeling seemed to emanate.

Steve descended into the cave. He noticed that it was completely bare of ores, meaning that someone had likely been here before him. How strange. The feeling of wither was stronger than ever now, and though his immune system did a fair job of keeping its ill effects from him, it didn’t make it any more pleasant.

Suddenly, Steve heard a loud rasping roar, and instinctively held up his shield, just in time to deflect a strange dark object that flew straight at him. Steve had time to chug a potion of night vision, he couldn’t fight what he couldn’t see after all.

As the darkness around him lifted, Steve’s jaw dropped. Never before had he seen such a horrible monster. It was nearly twice his height, but it seemed taller because it hovered several feet above the floor of the cave. It was skeletal, with pitch black bones, much like the strange sword-wielding skeleton he’d fought in the nether fortress. But unlike the skeleton, it had no arms, legs, or even hips. It had three skulls with blazing white eyes lined up in a row atop it’s broad, bony shoulders.

He had no hope of fighting this thing now, he wasn’t fully prepared. A distraction was his only hope. Continuing to block the monster’s projectiles, which he now saw to be flying black skulls, Steve looked around for anything that might distract the creature. That was when he had perhaps the biggest stroke of luck in his life. He saw that one section of the wall was made from mossy cobblestone. “A distraction,” He thought, “perfect!” Steve whipped out his diamond pickaxe and with two strokes, smashed a hole in the wall of his newly found dungeon. Immediately, a spider crawled out, only to be blasted by another flying skull from the monster. More spiders followed, and since there were more of them than there were of Steve, they became it’s new target. The distraction gave Steve enough time to flee. For the first time in years, Steve ran away.

But he wasn’t gone for long. If that thing got anywhere near a village, Steve didn’t want to think about what would happen. He soon collected enough iron to forge ten more swords. He didn’t know how strong this thing was. After crafting the new swords, as well as more arrows for his bow, Steve returned to the beast’s cave at the top of the mountain. It had surely destroyed the spider spawner by now. This time, there would be no turning back.

His bow at the ready, Steve crept back into the foul cave. Arrows and skulls flew as Steve battled the monster. Eventually, after a good deal of fighting, the creature seemed to lose its ability to fly. Instead, it dragged its short tail on the ground as if chained by an invisible weight. This made it easier to fight up close, but it seemed to have sacrificed it’s flight for immunity to arrows. Steve charged in, sword in hand. He slashed at the monster as it roared it’s raspy roar, flinging skulls in every direction and blasting holes in the walls and ceiling of the cave.

Finally, after what couldn’t have been less than an hour, the battle was over, and Steve emerged victorious. Upon death, the monster had left behind a hard, shiny object in the shape of a four pointed star. “The mages of Osokkos will certainly be interested in this.” Steve thought. He then embarked on the long journey home.

This entire story was based on the single detail that when you summon a wither, the explosion can be heard from anywhere in the dimension it is summoned in. Btw I will sub to the first person to correctly guess exactly who made the wither. Clues can be found here and in the story above. Deadline is march 17th 2019.
