Ok so umm this is a weird looking skin so I'll explain:
James recently stated on his twitter that “Car Lights” is about a crush he had on a guy when he was 17. He didn’t know how to process it at the time and would have thoughts that he would shut down and dreams that he would ignore. He said that he never explored it in his formative years because he was scared of how others (family) would react. - Genius
The song is very quiet and simple for a long time with just a bass line and drums. It talks through the relationship between the singer (James) and his partner in a sort of monotone way, with not much emotion. Since the majority of the song is like this, I have made most of the skin grey.
However, in the climax of the song, the singer (James) begins to come to terms with his feelings and says that his partner can hold his hand in public, as long as they can't see his face. Although this shows that the singer (James) is still nervous, it shows how he feels more comfortable with his partner, and is happy to show more affection in public rather than completely hiding away like he had before. I have shown this through the (very) saturated coloured streaks, as the singer (James) comes to terms with his 'true colours' and recognises that it was ok to feel this way towards his partner.
At the end of the song, the singer (James) repeats the same line as at the end of every chorus, except cutting it off to read "I hate what you're doing, I hate that it feels so..." possibly showing how he has come to terms with it and doesn't hate it anymore.
Why this is one of my favourite songs:
I love this song as it is about coming to terms with yourself, as well as the fact that I love the music and how it slowly adds parts until the climax is reached. James Marriott is very talented and plays the drums, bass and guitar so this song is really good!
