I've spoken before about how the Chapter 10 event in Genealogy of the Holy War is one of its best emotional moments, so you can imagine my surprise and joy when IS decided to give Sigurd a legendary version based on this appearance.
What we see here is a Sigurd fully mellowed by the consequences of his mistakes, a what if situation where the tragic hero is able to return for his last farewell to those he loved and gets to see the world that his successor created.
With the 2-year anniversary of the most recent FIre Emblem game coming closer with no sign of a new game reveal, all speculation of a Genealogy of the Holy War remake has been put into question, but I don't doubt that if such a game ever sees the light of day, it will do justice to the emotional payoff of this scene, and the scale of the story it takes place in. Sigurd is in many senses the archetypical tragic hero and his tale stands out among the many rich Fire Emblem stories as one of the most gripping and tragic. I have no doubt that if the game had been released in the West, it would have gone down as one of the classic SNES RPGs along with Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Dragon Quest and the like.
