Saddam Hussein (known as Al-Tikriti) was born on April 27, 1937 in a small town called Tikrit, 160 kilometers from Baghdad, in the north, on the right bank of the Tigris River. The father of the future Prime Minister and President of Iraq was a simple peasant who cultivated the land all his life. When little Saddam was 9 months old, his father died and he was left an orphan, after which, according to local customs, his uncle married his brother's wife and took the boy to his family, which, however, lived poorly and had little money for food. But this fact was not made public anywhere, as it was believed that the clan of Saddam - Al - Tikriti originates from an imam named Ali, who, according to legend, was the son-in-law of the Prophet Muhammad.

When Saddam grew up, in 1954 he entered the Baghdad college "Khark", where he became a member of the party cell of the Baath Party, which combines the ideas of Arab nationalism and socialism. Five years later, in 1959, Saddam takes part in the overthrow of the then dictator named Abdel Kerim Qasem, but the attempt failed and Saddam was threatened with the death penalty. But the execution did not take place, since he was able to escape first to the territory of Syria, and then to Egypt. After the regime of the aforementioned dictator fell, Saddam returned to his homeland, where he was elected a member of the PASP leadership, after which he took part in organizing a series of revolutionary events that occurred on July 17, 1968, which resulted in the PASP coming to power. At the same time, young Saddam Hussein was accepted as a member of the Revolutionary Command Council.

In 1969, Hussein graduated from Muntasiriya University in Baghdad and became a certified lawyer, and then, from 1971 to 1978, he underwent military training at the appropriate academy located in Baghdad. It was then that attacks on Kurdish settlements began, which led to their deportation in the amount of 350 thousand people, while 25 Kurdish villages were completely burned. After the completion of these actions, Saddam creates the so-called "Arab belt" on the border with Iran with a length of 25 km, personally leading this operation.

Exactly one year later, in 1979, Saddam becomes the President of Iraq, and also assumes the authority of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Iraqi Republic.

After coming to power, Saddam began to carry out large-scale actions to clear the entire vertical of power from supporters of the Ba'ath Party, while ordering the arrest of his former friends, as well as associates who helped him take power in the country. It was here that atrocities began, comparable in their cruelty to the Nazi acts of extermination of people. They consisted of taking into custody the families of the arrested Ba'ath Party leaders, after which they were tortured, and then brutally executed, with Saddam himself present at these executions.

On September 22, 1980, Saddam Hussein announced the start of a full-scale war against Iran. As a result of bloody hostilities, up to 1 million people died. Human. A large number of casualties was due to the use of poisonous mustard gas by Iraqi troops (the same one that was once used by the Kaiser's troops during the fighting on the battlefields of the First World War). The purpose of this war was to appropriate the oil-rich region of Khuzistan. The war itself lasted four years, after which both leaders signed a truce. In Iraq, this was regarded as a victory and Saddam was given the title of "savior of the nation." Wishing to capture this event, Saddam ordered from time to time to take his blood (which subsequently accumulated 1.5 liters) and write the Koran with it, which was then placed in the Iraqi Museum. Around the same time, the words “Allah Akbar!” appeared on the national flag of the country. (translated from Arabic "Glory to Allah!").

In 1990, Saddam Hussein invades Kuwait, intending to make it the 19th Iraqi province, but the allied forces led by the United States inflict a crushing blow on him (this operation is known throughout the world as "Desert Storm"), and he is forced to leave this country.

On June 30, 2004, the dictator, as well as a number of his officials, are arrested and handed over to the Iraqi authorities for trial. After two years of trial, Saddam Hussein is sentenced to death by hanging. The official indictment stated that the verdict was imposed on the charge of Saddam Hussein that he massacred hundreds of Shiites in 1982 in the city of Ed - Dujayla. In addition, just a few days later, he was also charged with genocide against the Kurds in the late eighties of the last century. The sentence was carried out on December 29, 2006. The dictator left four wives and three daughters. As for the sons, Kusay and Uday, they were eliminated by the troops of the anti-Iraq coalition.
