Yeah that's about right. Oh hey, didn't see you there. All cheesy openings aside, thanks for taking the 2 seconds to view my skin. I spent about, an hour on it, using only MCskin3D (a great program). If you're looking to get into skinning start off with SkinEdit, it's simpler and helps you learn the ropes.

A Humble Artist
I started skinning a year or so ago, using the program SkinEdit, a tool (or program rather) that I'd recommend to all learning to skin. Now you think my skins are good, and the thought "Oh woe is me, I shall never reach such heights" flows through your brain..

Stop it! Really, I'm not an amazing skin artist. Go praise Hal, for no mortal can reach his height, but me, oh it is indeed very possible. Just look at this for example, it's one of my first skins..
I didn't even know how to properly display them! I advertised the raw png file, what was I thinking! Eventually over time, I looked at other skins and mimicked what I saw. You can't force yourself to become instantly good, don't expect your first skin to be a masterpiece.
Around September last year I was browsing the MC forums and saw Studnicky's skin thread, it was his skins which led me here. It is here where I've made some good friends, becoming a little slice of the community, as inactive as I am. The great thing about this site is that feel. That sense of community, and having a shot at becoming a popular skin artist.
Anyway, now'a days I skin when I'm bored or if I'm 522 exp from a level (occasionally taking requests). It's been a long ride, and yeah, that's my skinning career more or less.
PMC
Planet Minecraft in my opinion, can act like a personal trainer for those getting into the skinning hobby. The reason for making this simile is because of the levelling system. You scroll along the pop reel looking at all the skins, then you see the levels, you say to yourself "Whoa I want to be lvl 50!" and you start attacking that goal.
Aside from that mechanic which I'd mentioned, PMC provides a community which has a homely feel to it. As you spend time on the forums you meet people, and make friends. Certain threads become hang out spots for you, it's really something that the MC forums doesn't boast, and that's why I think this is a really good site for anyone interested in skinning.
Improving PMC
Despite what I've said, PMC isn't without it's faults. The population is pretty immense, and it's easy to get cast to the side lines. This, in my opinion could hurt some of the newer skinners. To solve this, PM people. If you like a skin artist and want tips, tell them! No one ( or at least I fething hope not ) is so pretentious so that they won't help you. In fact, there's a whole project going on to pair together both mentors and trainees.
