Nikephoros (Νικηφόρος) III Botaneiates (Βοτανειάτης) was a Byzantine and Eastern Roman emperor of the 11th century. He was involved in many imperial matters prior to his reign, such as with Constantine IX, Isaac Komnenos, and Michael VI Bringas and much of these were his experience in the military, so he was seasoned before being involved in imperial matters. He essentially insulted the prior emperor, declared himself emperor, assembled an army, held off the Seljuks in Anatolia, and prevented several assassination attempts and revolts directed at himself. His reign was eventually ended by the usurpation of Alexios I Komnenos.
