Leo, or Leon (Λέων), IV was a Byzantine and Eastern Roman emperor of the 8th century. He was known as "The Khazar" because of his maternal lineage. His reign was marked by campaigns against the Abbasid Caliphate in Syria and Germanicia. His death forced Constantine VI to be emperor at nine years old and Irene of Athens became his regent.
