The skin I made for for Nitgo's "Infections and Mutations" contest. A dead individual in a torn hazmat suit, whose body was taken over by a violent sculk mutation. I had a lot of fun making this. Good luck to the other participants!
Lore I made for the skin and mutation:
"A city lies in ruin, devastated by the outbreak of dark, mysterious organisms that glowed a bright cyan. They supposedly originated from caves deep within the earth, likely explaining their glow. Having the ability to detect "vibrations" created by sounds, these organisms would mutate into violent forms to attack anyone they did detect. Upon taking the life of a living thing, the organisms would almost immediately run over and create an infestation in the body, "feeding" off of it and growing. Researchers cannot seem to deduce how they exactly function.
It is often speculated that the organisms had come from a facility, where they would have broken out in an accident and spread from there on.
While the city was almost entirely evacuated, one of the reporters on the scene was determined, and had figured to stay silent as possible, then gathered key footage of the event. In the midst of it all, an organism runs into their leg as they then flinch. Clack; their camera hits the ground as organisms begin to approach. They did not make it out, as was the fate of many others.
The city is now isolated, with the priority to keep the outer perimeters silent and prevent further outbreaks. An attempt to exterminate the organisms will soon be underway.
The camera of the deceased reporter had been retrieved. One of its most stand-out contents is the footage of a body in a torn hazmat suit, revealing a gruesome infestation."
๏ปฟThe sculk mutation is based on the behavior of sculk sensors (which detect sounds), and sculk catalysts (which create sculk blocks when a nearby entity dies). I just really liked the idea, and thought it was fitting, considering that 1.19 was recently released.
