Sometimes you want to be something that you just can't be. Sometimes you don't want to be a freaking flesh eating monster that tricks their victims into thinking that someone might actually love them, like these freaking insane little Sirens do.
Sometimes you want to break from this stupid mold that's clinging onto you like super glue and you know you can't but you try anyways.
And sometimes you might go a little too far, aka cut your fin in half so that you'll get legs so you can be SOMETHING DIFFERENT.
This Siren hated who she was. She hated everything about her, everything that she was: her green, scaly skin, her dark fin, and her lovely voice. She hated that she was a Siren. She wanted to be something that could love, and could have hope, like a human. So she took a nice little shard and saw, saw, saw and here she is: bloody and gruesome and horrible but at least she tried.
She definitely looked at her dreams in the wrong way, but she did chase her dreams.
The other Sirens were disgusted by their sister. The cut on her arm was payment for insulting the Sirens. Her life was payment for trying to escape the life of a Siren.
Her spirit lives on in the ocean. She tried. She was given the name Essayer.
Have you ever walked into the water and felt the water pulling back and you feel like you might be pulled back with it as you dig your feet into the sand? That's her. That's Essayer trying to grasp your legs so she can take them as her own, but the years have made her weak.
NOTE: This is not encouragement to cut your fin in half, mermaids, mermen, and Sirens. And narwhals. Don't hurt yourselves, no matter what you are. Mmkay? Kay. <3
