One of the most famous and terrible events of the Great Patriotic War was the 872-day siege of Leningrad. This historical event claimed many lives. However, despite all the terrible aspects of the blockade, severe hunger, bombing, the sound of sirens, illness, exhaustion, high mortality, this incident showed how united a people can be in difficult times. This is what Shostakovich’s famous Seventh Leningrad Symphony is dedicated to.

Great memory to all who died in these terrible years, to those who, until the last, at the cost of their lives, tried to get into the besieged city through Lake Ladoga - the “Road of Life”, who tried with all their might to supply the city with at least some kind of provisions, to those who, through blood, through death broke through the steel Nazi defenses and liberated the Northern capital.
