Description
The Dragonfly is a 4-rotor, heavy lift helicopter, used to transport large vehicles and equipment to remote locations, primarily in non-combat situations.
As it has no armaments, deployment to a hot zone usually requires escort by Hornets or Hawks. The Dragonfly has a forward-mounted remote-control sensor pod that the pilot can use to monitor the attachment, status and release of his cargo.
Each rotor has a heavy-duty winch next to it that can be independently controlled by the pilot or a ground-based colleague with a remote link. The lower rear stabilizers do double duty as landing skids.
The UNSC Dragonfly can illuminate any landing zone with 7 belly and wing mounted high-intensity lights. It is also night vision equipped for covert operations.
While its crews like to brag that the Dragonfly is “Strong enough to lift an Elephant!” – there is no documented evidence that this has ever occurred. Scorpions, Mastodons, and the occasional Vulture in need of repair are its typical cargo… although large supply drops to remote locations are becoming more common.
