Welcome towards my first release of a new series by me, eagoy.

This first part of my piece by piece made city is a street intersection with a working traffic light system.
In two versions:
- A simplified timed/fixed system;
- A vehicle driven system -> no traffic? no green time for you

In comparison towards real-life systems it's rather shy, but heck it works.
Time driven (redstone)
Vehicle driven (redstone)
Advanced current tech traffic lights
fixed / timed cycle
default green line + other lines/direction on input
vehicle dependent cycle (if not chained)
possibly combined with "talking traffic"
lamp on / lamp off
(change-able)
piston red/green powder
(change-able)
green/yellow - orange/red
automatic turn of on night
(optional build in)
automatic turn of on night
(optional, not build in)
automatic turn of on night + safety measures
not chain-able with other traffic lights
not chain-able with other traffic lightschain-able with traffic lights through the whole city

Vehicle driven cycles overview:

Note:
* I used pistons with red/lime concrete powder. As you might notice in the above *.gif. Not all light update properly given the strain on the system
* I build this in minecraft 1.12, due to welcome possible usage of MC-edit. However it does mean I cannot use different trapdoors which cover the full side.

The series:
In short, this is the first part of an upcoming city of mine, more precisely this is the only part ready yet. The city will be made part by part, to make sure I keep motivation in it, parts will be quite different from each other. This also means I have no schedule of what next and when it should be finished. In short, in due time it will be uploaded. So a little recap:
- city is made in chunks;
- no plan is made in which course it will be made;
- it will be uploaded when a chunk is done;
- the city lay-out isn't determined, just rough idea's;
- the focus will be infrastructure;
- my Two T's pack will be used for it. Srcap that, I discontinued that pack, changed to default

Other parts:
1. This project
2. Neighbourhood - 2 side streets
3. Glade - City Park
4. Green Magic House

Other:
- Bicycle inspiration by : this project
- Rendering tool : Chunky
- Resource/texture - pack : Two T's pack v13-10-2015

Personally I appreciate more a thoughtful comment than a diamond.
So leave a comment if you like, or not and say why :-)

Wow, this is probably the most interesting redstone-based map I've seen in a long time.  Great job, dude!

Maybe because it's useable in tons of maps?

Anyway thanks for the compliment :-)

Apparently you haven't seen my 'Game of the goose' boardgame reconstruction, a full redstone powered automatic classic board game playable.

Nonetheless, thanks for diamond and comment :-)

When I get the chance to, I want to take a look at this. I'm not that well versed in redstone, but from what I understand from the descriptions, it's essentially multiple cycles dictated by a night and day cycle. How often do the light's change? This is a really clever use of redstone and very useful for cities.

In short, the redstone is a closed loop system with a 3~4 second puls with delay's 4~5 seconds delay between changing green/lamp off. At night, the day/night detector switch cut the closed loop system at a certain level. In the morning when the sun level is high enough it restarts the system automatic by a 3~4 second pulse, after 3~4 second the input pulse is cut off.

From a technical real-life standpoint, a 4 second green time is way to low for standard plus the delay time between two different green is to short. As it's a fixed cycle, it doens't take rush hour in account meaning it isn't optimal.

As for the redstone, this is the most simple way I could make it. For different timings I need to use different delay systems which would need a different way to power, such as a type of piston clock. Currently I am to lazy for it. Maybe in a later stadium were I have more intersections to hook up onto a system I may try out some more advanced stuff such as chaining them for a green wave or different cycle types depending on sun power to mimic rush hour.

I hope the above clear some stuff up ;-)

Anyway nice to see you sticking your head out of lurking-mode ;-)

Yeah, I pop on occasionally to see what everyone is making, but been very busy. Haven't even touched Minecraft since the underwater contest, and even with that, I barely had a project to post let alone for it to be considered finished. Needed far more time than I had

And yeah, that clears it up. I figured it was a more complicated version of some of the light systems I've made. Very cool

Just curious, but since you finished your thesis. Does that mean you're now a full architect or are you still a student?
