The Southern Pacific AC-12 is a 4-8-8-2 cab forward oil firing steam locomotive. They were built during WW2 to haul cargo through the Donner Pass and Cascade Summit. Putting the cab at the front of the engine helped with keeping the toxic gasses out of the cab while traversing through the long tunnels.
