This no longer seems to work in 1.15, it does mostly work but it creates a redstone torches burnout clock. (In other words it makes the piston flick up and down for a few seconds on retraction)

the torch burnout mechanic makes this work, its not fast or practical though, if you're making a redstone build with something like this, I'd recommend using the prototypes in this video :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPQXj5xjGGA
