As of late I've been working on several projects at once. This one has taken me over a week in just fine tuning and I still don't feel done with it, but I've come to a point where I feel like I must let it go - at least for now. This map under went many transformations and a few complete overhauls. It reminds me of a saying that goes along the lines of a writer's book is never truly completed, only released. I wonder how many other map makers feel this way about their maps?
I've learned quite a few things making this island. I set out to start with to learn how to make a custom giant cavern. Big thanks to Jeracraft's YouTube tutorial on how to do that.
In that video I also learned about the height based brush settings. All this time I've been painting in by hand on the topographic layers where I've wanted things geographically. I didn't know that World Painter had a setting that would automagically do it for you. There are some pros and cons to this though. As you can see in this map, the line where the mycellium begins and ends is very sharp. Short of starting completely over, I'm not sure how to correct that line. I don't like it.
Thanks to Barbarian's tutorial on World Painter and terraforming I was able to figure out what the degree brush setting was for and transformed my shoreline into something a little more interesting than what I had before.
So this entire map was spent shaping caves, tunnels, and tinkering with brush settings while trying to get objects placed just right.
I envisioned a landscape above ground that largely appeared uninhabitable, but still inviting enough to explore. Beneath the mountains the explorer is rewarded with the find of an expansive forested cavern. Unfortunately this meant I had to disable the generation of structures. I don't consider this map officially survival friendly because of this even though everything else is present.
Hopefully the caverns are large enough to inspire the construction of an underground civilization. Who or what lives down here I wonder?
As for the objects, credit must be be given where credit is due:
Underground Forested Cavern
Cave Trees - Emerald Seeker MC
Fantasy Bundle - xDrift
Cave Assets - GhostXavier (modified by me to include some ocean monument blocks)
Crystal Trees - Plutouthere
Stone Beach
Dead Trees - LemonFox
Dead Trees - Plutouthere
Japanese Trees - NStalker
Mushroom Landscape
Mushroom Bundle - LanguageCraft
Mushroom Repository - lentebriesje
Mushrooms - Mythix13
Mushrooms - Springstof

Ocean Floor
Caelitus Coral Reef Pack - GhostXavier
Small Coral Repository - Annah
Coral Repository - Annah
Seeweed & Searocks - Annah
I truly hope you enjoy this map and that it inspires you to build something on it. You may use it however you like, just be sure to give all the credits where credits belong. Yes, I know there is a lot to credit sorry about that.
