The English round ship developed at the same time as the Holk and had characteristics of both the Hanseatic cog and the Holk. Due to the hull structure, the round ship could carry more loads, but in favour of speed. The width of the hull was about 1/3 of the total length. Later round ships could be built much larger using the Kraweel construction method, which meant that the maximum number of masts could be increased to three, bringing the ship to a maximum length of about 35 metres.
In addition, a blind was also added towards the end of the Middle Ages. In 1497, John Cabot (Giovanni Caboto) became the first European explorer (after the Vikings) to set foot on the North American mainland with a ship of this design.
The ship "Stormflod" will become part of the Giessenmarschen fleet in the future. It is part of the German medieval roleplay server creative-empire.de.

Das englische Rundschiff entwickelte sich gleichzeitig mit dem Holk und hatte sowohl Eigenschaften der hanseatischen Kogge, als auch des Holk. Aufgrund des Rumpfaufbaus konnte das Rundschiff zwar mehr Lasten transportieren, jedoch zugunsten der Geschwindigkeit. Die Breite des Rumpfes entsprach etwa 1/3 der Gesamtlänge. Spätere Rundschiffe konnten mit der Kraweelbauweise deutlich größer gebaut werden, wodurch die maximale Anzahl an Masten auf drei erhöht werden konnte und das Schiff es auf eine Maximallänge von ca. 35 Meter brachte. Zusätzlich wurde auch gegen Ende des Mittelalters eine Blinde hinzugefügt.
Im Jahr 1497 schaffte es John Cabot (Giovanni Caboto) es mit einem Schiff in dieser Bauweise als erster europäischer Entdecker (nach den Wikingern) das nordamerikanische Festland zu betreten.
Das Schiff "Stormflod" wird zukünftig Teil der Gießenmarschener Flotte werden. Es ist Teil des deutschen Mittelalter- Roleplay- Servers
