1.1.2 UPDATE: Read the update log for more details, or watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCif_6G8TDg
There are some mods that makes Minecraft blocks come alive, and when you kill a living block it will drop itself. Many people seems to like this idea, so I took this concept and made it in vanilla Minecraft. The living blocks are easy to modify, and they can be any kind of block in minecraft.
Did you like this concept? Leave a diamond to show your support!
How does it work?
It is recommended that you watch the video before reading this. The living blocks are actually zombie pigmen that are invisible with an ore as a helmet. They are named "Dinnerbone" so that the Pigmen are upside down, which makes it look like the ore is walking around. I chose zombie pigmen to be the ores, because they are neutral. They will not attack you if you do not attack them first.
There is a rapid redstone clock that powers some command blocks. One of the command blocks will testfor a zombie pigman. Once it can not find a pigman (which means a player has killed it) it will summon a new pigman and also give the player an ore, so if the player killed a diamond ore he/she will receive a diamond. The other command block is just making the pigmen invisible.
If you have any questions just ask it in the comments!
I have added a world download for those who are unable to use MCEdit.

Previously, the living blocks did not have any special area to spawn in, but in this new mini update video I show how I intended the living blocks to spawn: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCif_6G8TDg
