The LAV II is the second generation of the Light Armoured Vehicle (LAV) family moving from a 6x6 to a 8x8 platform, and was produced by General Motors Diesel Division (now General Dynamics Land Systems Canada) in London, Ontario. They were initially purchased and intended for operation by the Canadian Forces Primary Reserve, but were rapidly appropriated by the regular force of the Canadian Army.[28] It was procured in two main variants, the Coyote armoured fighting vehicle and the Bison armoured utility vehicle which filled a number of roles.
