The Latécoère 631 was a civil transatlantic flying boat built by Latécoère, the largest ever built up to its time. The type was not a success, being unreliable and uneconomic to operate. Five of the eleven aircraft built were written off in accidents and one was lost during World War II.

The Air France Latécoére 631 designated F-BDRC "Lionel de Marnier" operated on a round trip service from Biscarrosse, France to Fort de France, Martinique, with a refueling stop at Port-Etienne, Mauritania. On Sunday, 1 August 1948, the aircraft crashed into the Atlantic Ocean some 1900 km west off Dakar, Senegal, wiht a total of 52 lives lost. The wreckage was never found. This was the third Latécoére lost out of the 10 built, and the 2nd fatal accident of the type. Following this loss, the Latécoère 631 was withdrawn from service by Air France.
