Hello everyone! This ship has been sitting around for a while, and I was going to use it in a submission to the Head Into the Clouds contest, but due to several week-long things getting in the way, I was never able to finish it. (An airship port with a military and civilian section) So, I decided to share what I have built, all of two airships! The other will come later, but for now enjoy the Hydra! I wanted to try my hand at steampunk airships again, so let's see how this one turned out!
Specs!
Class: Hydra
Type: Battlecruiser (Designation SCB)
First Flown: 7/15/45
Length: 119m
Width: 41m
Height: 44m
Armament:
Powerplant: 3 Steam Piston Engines
Thrust: 5 Propellers
Lift: Three Hydrium Balloons split into multiple gas cells.
Displacement: 1,250 tons
Commissioned Ships:
Operating Ceiling: 30,000 feet
Cost: $140 million Skylord Dollars
Auxiliary Craft: None
A bit of a throwback to an earlier time, the Hydra-class battlecruiser, commissioned near the end of World War II, became a common symbol of Skylord air power up until the Indomitable's launch in the early 21st Century. In fact, several of the later vessels, namely Manticore, Phoenix, and Wyvern, are still in active duty, albeit refitted with modern technology, and the Griffin, Pegasus, and Cerberus are in reserve status, pending reactivation if necessary. Prior to the mechanized fleet's emergence as the new Skylord Air Navy, ships like the Hydra were the most advanced vessels of their kind, dominating contemporary wooden Minecraftian airships and, should they have remained in use, canvas zeppelins of the rest of Earth. After the formal discovery of hydrium, a substance lighter than hydrogen that creates a practical vacuum inside the balloons, the Skylord military seized the initiative and began building larger and larger ships. However, the ever-present limitations of lighter-than-air craft remain, and despite being one of the largest ships in the fleet, the Hydra's facilities pale even aboard similar-sized mechanical craft. Despite some resistance, the Hydra and her counterparts were phased out rather quickly when their successors gained prominence.
Also be warned that this is 1.8. The only problem if you open it in an earlier thing will be the andesite will be stone, but then it'll look weird.
