Welcome to Hawthorne Federal Prison, also known as HF, or Hawthorne Federal! This prison was first opened in 1940 in Ogden, Utah as an army prison to hold Japanese POWs during the Second World War, under the name of Ogden Army Prison. After the war ended, it was converted into a civilian prison. By the year 1966, it was renamed Hawthorne Federal Prison, named after the first warden of Ogden Army Prison, William Franklin Hawthorne. Nowadays, Hawthorne Federal Prison remains a relatively high capacity prison, with very low rates of escape or incident. Enjoy your tour of the prison.
