So, hello once again. ^~^ This build was made for another of the Minecraft Discord's Fortnightly Building Challanges, run by Cookiie once again, and the theme for this build is Post Apocalyptic, and while I'm sure it may look a little more lively than most places do after an apocalypse, it just so happens that what may be catastrophic for one can be a haven for another...

One day, humans found the water suddenly start turning green, and it did not take long to figure out it was toxic when people started consuming it or slipping in or even just touching it or coming into the slightest of contact and falling to their knees and collapsing dead. Even a single drop of it was killing people, yet there wasn't a single source of water on the planet that hadn't turned green, and despite any scientific efforts at figuring it out, the water simply melted any attempt to rectify the danger, and any further water that some tried to gather through alternate means, such as using the condensation in the air, became toxicated the moment it reached a large enough amount. Some were able to avoid this at first by taking it in smaller amounts a bit at a time and cautiously treading little by little, but that wasn't enough...

Despite any rational efforts, the pollution of the water simply continued to spread, and the wildlife gradually grew infected with it as well, with even the air becoming contaminated in the process, leading to all the sources humanity had left to survive off being unusable beyond then. The majority of humanity died out not even knowing what had occurred or why, and were exterminated as the plague grew. Some, however, didn't give up on the basis of simply knowing Earth was unsalvageable, and tried taking to space in journeys to find other planets, and whilst little is known of their success or lack thereof, it wasn't long after that before ships started to arrive on Earth, so chances are that they would've been intercepted in their time of leaving orbit, unable to avoid the notice of the extraterrestrial forces.

It hadn't taken long. The Earth had been overrun within weeks, if not days, and there wasn't really anyone to track the time it'd taken regardless so we'll never truly know just how quickly it fell, but only that it was too quick to react. I'm sure there were some pockets of survivors here and there for a time, somehow making do with alternate means of survival, like supporting their lives on means other than water, and while I don't know how they would manage it, I don't doubt their potential inventiveness. Many would simply fall and die, but there's always someone, somewhere, who holds out with some ingenious idea that challenges all the odds.
But with the advent of the giant creatures that followed the aliens here, competing with them and challenging their rights to hold onto this place while having some absurd senses and size and scale and strength, I highly doubt even those small pockets of survivors would have any chance of remaining undetected and safe for long enough to achieve their freedom. I highly doubt it would be anything but a matter of time before they all met the same untimely grizzly early end.

But in a world overcome by disaster, is that really a bad thing? Would you want to still stick around while everything crumbles around you, and the entirety of civilization as you know it and your homes and friends and family rot and corrode away, burned and melted and ruined, and everything that mattered to you was brought to an irreversible eternal end?
I'm sure there are those who would say yes, but they would be the rarer part of us. Perhaps it was better this fate caught up to those small pockets, for their sake, to free them from their lonely, pitiful, sorrow, and hopefully these aliens have some emotion in their minds, to bring happiness to the next occupants of this Earth.

Now... honestly, with all that said about the backstory and description of the lore I don't really have as much to say about the building process, other than that it was honestly enjoyable to experiment with another new theme I hadn't touched upon before. I'm glad to participate in the contests with the peculiar varying themes to build up my experience and my portfolio and in the process my ability and fun too, because experimenting like this is honestly really quite enjoyable. I do feel that the large organic absolutely didn't go as well as I would've liked in my head, but it wasn't too bad, and it lit up just as I wanted with the shaders anyway, and I know as well that the terrain has a lot I could've done better if I were to reattempt, but I feel very much happy with the various flying ships - the large and the small ones - and the structures as well, because they lived up to the quality I like to create, so I'm pleased with those. :) Basically... I don't like what I didn't hand-build; I didn't hand-build the terrain and I didn't hand-build the organics, as I used things like "//spike" to make the organic, and various brushes to try to create the terrain, but hand-building - even if it takes longer - is so, so, so much more satisfying in the end. :D
Thank you for reading through this lengthy description, to all who did, and I appreciate the curiousity about the build. :) Hopefully it was nice to see, and hopefully you're doing well, and hi. ^~^
Yes. Hi. o/

And as a little addition, now, I can clarify that it got second place. :) I was optimistic, but the contest sought a more abandoned-city aesthetic than necessarily post-apocalyptic itself, and the first place had a better grasp of an abandoned city rather than one which had been targeted by some other mode of apocalypse, so it achieved that better thematically through being less open, and it worked. :) It's also a lot tidier and easier to see, while this one of mine is probably one on the drearier end of visibility after all.
So, as second place:
CreditBuilder's Refuge for being the location I built it, WorldEdit and FAWE for being very darn useful, and Sildur's Shaders and BSE shaders for being great for lighting in screenshots.

All the bright lime green reminds me of Adventure Time when the bomb was dropped. "Not much is known about The Mushroom War or the events leading up to it, except that it ended with a mushroom bomb being dropped on what was once America, awakening The Lich and ending most of life on Earth." - Adventure Time Wiki

o: That's a pretty nice thing to be reminded of for this - it's a post-apocalyptic world too, after all. I'm glad it brings that to mind. :D Thank you. :) I haven't seen that in Adventure Time before, although I've watched some of the show, so it's interesting to hear about something similar like that.

Thank you. xD It's definitely one of my favourites and I was quite pleased with the ships as it was mostly just hand-building fun little constructs and varying it up a little. It worked out better than I expected, especially with the epic shaders. :o Sildur's and BSE's worked brilliantly and changing the lighting colour is so worth it for things like this. :D

I don't think I'm going to as I'm a little cautious about that, but I really appreciate the enthusiasm to see me do so, so thank you. :) That's really kind. ^~^
