First post and first schematic so be kind.
One Switch Chicken/Eggs farm.
By default farm is on egg production, switching to cook chicken will stop the water and queue the chicken squawking, once the howling stops switch back to eggs and your cooked chicken will float in to you leaving the farm back on egg production where it should be.
Farm was created for the switch to be set up in a barn a good distance away (so can hide dispenser to restock) but 'rejigged' it for this post to house in one room, redstone could be compacted better for a one room setup.
Note: Restocking dispenser not included in this schematic. Fences can be removed as water currents seem to keep chickens from escaping.

Thanks a lot mate.
(There's a version with dispensers on 'Fence Hell Farm' although the cocoa harvest in there needs updating since the patch). Not a big job but it didn't really get enough love for me to update and re-upload.
