The Caryatid statues were female figures used as columns in Greek architecture. They were named after the town of Karyai, where maidens were said to have been enslaved by the Persians. The most famous Caryatids are the six that support the roof of the Erechtheion on the Acropolis in Athens.

The Caryatids were sculpted in the 5th century BC and are known for their drapery and intricate hairstyles. They are depicted wearing long, flowing garments and have their hair pulled up into a chignon. The six Caryatids of the Erechtheion in Athens each have their own distinct hairstyle. Some of the Caryatids have been removed from their original locations and can now be found in museums around the world.
