The Soviet designation Project 1171 (Tapir-class) landing ship (NATO reporting name: Alligator) is a class of Soviet / Russian general purpose, beachable amphibious warfare ships (Soviet classification: large landing ship, Russian: БДК, большой десантный корабль).

14 of these ships were completed between 1966 and 1975. Each ship can carry 20 tanks or 40 armored personnel carriers or 300-425 troops or 1000 tons of general cargo.
They are built on traditional LST lines with a continuous tank deck served by aft and bow ramps for roll-on, roll-off operations and a shallow draft that permits beaching in order to disembark troops.
