Whenever you feed a pig, they'll drop 2 blocks of dirt!

This is to do two things:
1) Create a means of balanced, sustainable dirt. Dirt is currently a nonrenewable resource.
2) Give pigs a relevant use. All other farm animals are superior to the pig. There are little incentives to farming pigs other than just wanting to for the aesthetic.

This is brilliant! I was planning something much like this and thinking how I should implement it, and this is much better than any idea I was thinking of. I like this very much, saving for later so I can use it on my server. Dirt is such an underrated block, and I am always running out. Thanks!

In 1.16 and forward dirt is 100% renewable, using the gravel given by piglins and crafting 2 dirt and 2 gravel into 4 coarse dirt, you can hoe the coarse dirt back into dirt, giving 4 dirt by the end. So effectively replicating the dirt at the cost of gravel. But in 1.13 and 1.14 obviously this is not the case so it's non-renewable, just thought I'd let you know.

nice one

gravel is indeed renewable with piglins, just really tedious to get unless you have a gold farm

Both this vanilla method and this datapack could make for an interesting SkyBlock concept

That's very true! But you do have to gather gravel for that. Gravel is not a sustainable resource, so while you are getting a net value on dirt, you're not sustainably creating it. With this, you can make automatic potato and carrot farms and convert that into dirt for a sustainable income. The goal was to make a sustainable source! :-)

However piglins trade gravel, so therefore it is sustainable :)
