So I was surfing on PMC the other day like I use to do these days, and then I quickly came over a popular good looking project. As much as I gave it a diamond I also downloaded it.

I was excited to explore the map as I realized it wasn’t the map I expected. My eyes had lied to me, pictures don’t tell everything.

Is quality looking images too good to be true? Are these the kind of submissions who get the most attention? Well let me break it down for you.

All popular submissions are either

1)   Amazing and has a deserveable effort for its popularity

2)   Some amazing advertising/artism work

3)   Work made by famous people

Now let’s take our eyes away from the project section and skip over to the skin section. The skin section has so many submissions uploaded to the site every day that it’s hard to keep track. It’s so simple to make a skin and if you do it right you can gain popularity pretty quick. Statistics tells us that a decent skinner gets more diamonds for his/her submission then a decent builder. A good skin will always get the diamonds it deserves; there is nothing to hide in the preview. But for a hard working builder who just can’t get his preview pictures right will never get as much diamonds that he deserves. Or even a non-popular amazing builder will never get his work appreciated. Some get disappointed when they put their heart and effort to make the most amazing thing they ever have built and then some popular person makes some kind of effortless build which leads to so much popularity. Why is this? What is wrong with people? We look more into pretty things which can be good taking edited preview pictures but in game it looks crap (sorry for my language).

The skinning community is more active and bigger than any other community on PMC. Builders are not that much socially active with appreciation as skinners. Every builder want their construction ti be more popular than their competitors builds by views, downloads, diamonds etc.

Oh no, I haven’t forgotten the blog, texturepack or the mod section. As far as I know everyone is downloading texturepacks and those who can, diamonds their work. Mods are awesome and everyone knows that. People don’t read that much blogs these days, what can we do? Nothing that I know about atm.

Thing is, if you ask me people should give a lot more attention to the building section where people make some awesome stuff. Take your time to comment and download their content. Just because personally you use texturepacks, mods and skins doesn’t mean you can’t check out some guys build and try enjoying it.

But hey idk, maybe it’s just fine how it is. I just wonde, is quality or artism more appreciated on PMC? Would you have more fun trying on a nice skin or running around a big adventures pirate island? Well whatever you choose just give that submission the attention it deserves.

So do you agree or do you disagree with me? Do you think artistic work get more appriciation then quality hard working submissions or other way around? Whatever the answer might be dont make a war out of it.

Thank you!

Absolutely true, very thought-provoking blog.
And one thing, i think the proper timing of uploading a project is very important too, it can affect the number of diamonds heavily.

I agree with you, but this is mainly because this affects me personally..

In the beginning I had no experience with presenting my build (rendering pictures, chosing a nice angle etc.).
My renders where limited to my PCs ability to render the world in Minecraft itself, resulting in small, unintresting pictures with sometimes only half of my buildings previewed. Because of the poor quality of my presenation almost no one payed attention to my build (max 100 players and only 1-2diamonds) on which I worked for hours and hours or even days/weeks. This was very disappointing, eventually leading to a 1 year time-out of my city build for example.

Meanwhile I saw people getting  loads of diamonds and 1k+ vieuws on projects which where dirt houses in comparison (frustration coming up now..) in terms of efford, just because they are either good at presenation of their work/ populair or simply lucky to be one of the first submissioners on PMC.

I completely understand the frustation and I therefore support you in your opinion Xoyjaz!
I hope this discussion will be seen by as much people as possible to bring some awareness for this subject

I joined in 2013 and saw this issue throughout my pmc days. We are trying to promote good work, I would love for people to look more on these creative builders and giving them a chance. Luckily I changed my ways fast, but I felt for the members. My blogs are always for the minority members that are not heard. This blog was created a year ago, and now we are still sitting here talking about it. Thank you for your comment, I appriciate it a lot!
