Hello there, ladies and gentlemen!  On today's episode of Week in Review, we have a very special co-host.  That's right, Wilfred J. Pemberley, the Ghast of Nottingham will be joining us today!  Please enjoy the chaotic ramblings.

I have never featured a command block minigame on Week in Review before.  Until now, that is.  The best structure of the week, and coincidentally the most addictively fun thing I’ve ever seen posted on PMC, was Cephyr Tower Defence.  It’s a minigame created by, big surprise, Cephyr.



This is a brilliant take on a classic tower defense game, crafted with hundreds of command blocks, and some breathtaking style as well.  Basically, you create a maze filled with weapons and traps, in the hopes that said weapons and traps cut down the hoards of monsters filing through it.



The great thing about this is the fact that everything is customizable.  You create the maze, you select the theme, and you position the traps to inflict maximum damage.  There’s even unique bosses after a set number of enemy waves.



But did Cephyr place all of this in a plain box with flat walls?  No, he did no such thing.  The whole facility is well decorated with a futuristic building style.  No expenses were spared.



Cephyr Tower Defence is the best of two worlds: addictive gameplay and aesthetically pleasing design elements.  I would go so far to say that it’s my favorite command block creation ever.  And who knows; maybe Cephyr will come up with a sequel in time for Christmas.  *fingers crossed*

Not unlike the aforementioned project, the best terraforming of the week was also a delightfully interactive map made for fun.  That map is Medievale PvP Spawn - Warzone, created by GaetanMC.



Warzone is a massive grassland arena, filled to the brim with mountainous peaks, rustic architecture, and custom trees aplenty.  The terrain is cut with winding paths, village centers, and an elaborate excavation site.



The terraforming itself is exquisite and filled with unique motifs.  The architecture is similarly diverse and full of nuances.  But the best part of this map is the atmosphere.  It’s extremely immersive and has a very realistic feel.



Speaking of atmosphere, the map takes on a completely different vibe when played at night.  The placement of the torches and glowstone creates an environment with a ghostly, ominous tone.



Overall, this is a smart map.  It’s clear that GaetanMC really thought about the placement of each feature, as well as the spatial proportions between light sources.  All of this makes for a wondrous playing experience.

And finally, the best organic work of the week was Festive Thoughts, created by Necrosys.  There is a word for maps like this, and that word is ‘art’.



The base of this glorious creation is a human head, covered in a layer of wacky face paint.  The eyes, ears, nose, and mouth are perfectly placed and look highly realistic.



However, the important part of Festive Thoughts is the craziness coming out of the back of the head.  Colorful towers with extravagant onion domes, a ferris wheel, a toy train, and a cluster of exploding fireworks jut out of the scalp in spectacular fashion.



I guess this map is the literal interpretation of the phrase ‘festive thoughts’, considering that this person’s thoughts have taken corporeal form, which happens to be an assortment of iconically festive things.



But it’s not just the shapes and forms, but the colors that really make this build special.  Hues of all kinds saturate the architecture and the organic work, turning it into a dazzling array of truly festive themes.  It’s as if the pure essence of festivity was condensed into a serum and injected into somebody’s brain, which resulted in an aneurism that caused the person’s head to explode.  That’s just my take on it.



Overall this is an extremely successful build.  The idea is very creative and thought-provoking, and every element is executed perfectly.  As I said at the beginning, this is art, and it’s damn good art at that.
