I notice there seems to be lacking in server originality nowadays and a lot of servers don't seem to be that decent anymore. I decided I will be posting several articles about this. There are servers filled with griefers, spawnkillers, terrible owners and what not?
This is a rant upon Faction servers in minecraft.
The overhaul of faction PVP servers.
It seems as if almost every server nowadays is faction PVP or prison. Prison is overused but this rant is on faction servers.
Faction servers take up about 999/1000 servers out there. It's just getting annoying. Why are there so many faction PVP servers? A lot of them are ran by terrible owners. It's not even funny anymore. Faction servers are being released every 10 minutes. I have no clue why everybody goes on them and why they are the primary type of server.
There are many other server types you could think of, you don't even have to think of your own server concept, there are plenty people already made that aren't used often.
All of these servers are just the same exact thing. There are also too many spawn killers, you just walk out of spawn and this idiot comes to murder you. On 1 faction server, I even saw a faction named "NewbKillers" and they always do nothing but camp around the spawn and make sure nobody will pass without getting murdered in cold blood.
Really, I could get perma banned from a faction server and not care because there are millions of servers that are the exact same thing as it.
All these servers nowadays are EXACTLY THE SAME. Not only that but people are going to just kill new comers to the server and overtake thier small 2 chunk sized faction base with a small house. Faction servers nowadays just seem to be dumb and stupid.
A lot of these servers even seem to be run my terrible owners (did I mention that before?)
For example, some of these owners let the staff members have creative mode and cheats and stuff and they have factions with over 9000 power and overclaim. And they use OP items like Sharpness 18 swords and enchanted diamond armor with protection 32. I've been on a server and there was the admin's faction and it was OVERLY powerful. It was impossible to raid and like I said, they used over powered items. And they had creative!
Really some server staff seem to think they are oh so superior to regular members. One admin was making fun of me, and I thought of a clever comeback and they just instantly banned me .-.
And can I bring up the fact that all of these faction servers can't even think of an original name? HOW HARD IS IT!?!??!
The names will end with Craft, PVP or whatever.

Not all faction servers are bad.
Some faction servers if done right and have some originality thrown in can be pretty decent. Faction servers used to be more fun a long time ago.
However, I have played on some decent faction servers. I wouldn't mind a faction server if it had original ideas like a roleplay server. A lot of faction servers are bad though. I do agree some faction servers can be done right. But it's rare you will come across a DECENT faction server.
Also, a lot of servers seem to have the same exact minigames, Spleef, Survival Games and what not? I might save that for another rant about lack or originality with minigames.

Different Servers
Tell me, how OFTEN do you come across an ORIGINAL SERVER? Or a NON-FACTION server?
Rarely? That's what I thought. A little bit ago I found a original server concept with a server rather than same old faction PVP server. I didn't like the concept too much but maybe some other people might like it.
HOW HARD IS IT TO COME UP WITH A NON-FACTIONS SERVER!!!??? I know I am going to get a lot of hate in the comments of owners of faction servers but keep in mind, think to your self, what truley makes your server different?
But role playing servers, tekkit servers whatever, they are all underrated and underused.
Why do so many people who are making a server just make it the same exact ******* thing as every other server.
Plain survival servers and vanilla servers aren't half bad. As long as if they have a decent community without griefers, spawnkillers, idiots, unfair staff ECT.
Some ideas to make a server that is different:
- Roleplay
- Custom plugins or rarely used plugins
- Mods
- A unique server concept
- Custom map
The message I'm saying is if your making a server, try making it different. Don't be afraid to experiment with different server types. I myself am preparing a survival server with mods, a custom map and such.
Hopefully faction servers are just a fad.
