The (second) most terrifying monster in Minecraft, the infamous Ender Dragon is probably one of the more well-known creatures of our favorite sandbox game.While searching for an End Portal, have any of you actually given much thought to WHY the dragon lives in the End, and WHERE the dragon actually came from?

For one, there is a very high chance that the Ender Dragon was once, unlike nowadays, CERTAINLY not alone. The following reasons suggest why the Ender Dragon may be the last of its kind:

1) The dragon egg. Upon slaying the dragon, players will find a return portal along with it spawned at the location of the dragon's death. This suggests that the Ender Dragon might be a female, and may once have had a male dragon partner.

2) Fossils. With the launching of the 1.10 update, gigantic rib and skull fossils can now be found underground as naturally spawning structures. The gigantic, reptilian structure of the fossils makes it plausible that the fossils may have belonged to gigantic dragons inhabiting the Overworld alike the Ender Dragon.

Still, what wiped out the rest of the dragons, and what caused the Ender Dragon to reside in the end? Well, it might be reasonable to suggest that a massive plague of some sort could've caused the extinction, just like the case with the wiping out and zombification of the civilized Pigmen in the Nether. To avoid suffering from the same fate as the other members of her kind, the dragon sealed herself and another male inside the End with the help of the Endermen's telekinetic powers.
