Minecraft 2.0!

Minecraft 2.0 was released as an April Fool's joke by Mojang on April 1, 2013. Mojang sent the 2.0 jar files to some famous YouTubers that played along and released videos of the "upcoming Minecraft 2.0 release". On April 2, it was confirmed by Mojang that Minecrat 2.0 was an April Fool's joke. However, this version is still a playable release and can be installed. Mojang took down the downloads for Minecraft 2.0, and it can now be hard to get a copy. There are three different versions of Minecraft 2.0:

Blue (First Release) - All features without Super Hostile Mode
Purple (Second Release) - All features and Super Hostile Mode
Red (Third Release) - Super Hostile Mode only

On April 5, Mojang announced that they would not support Minecraft 2.0 because it was an April Fool's joke. This means that any 2.0 bugs found will not be fixed and any problems with 2.0 will not be solved. Here's the link to Dinnerbone's tweet on Minecraft 2.0 support.

Download!

As previously mentioned, Mojang took down the official download links for all Minecraft 2.0 versions. Shortly afterwards, Minecrafters that managed to get their hands on 2.0 started to upload the jar files to file hosting websites. Unfortunately, there was a chance that malware could be downloaded along with the files. Sacheverell, content manager and video producer for the official Minecraft Forum, shared a Mediafire link to safe files. Other safe downloads can be found on the Minecraft 2.0 wiki page on the Minecraft Wiki.

Installation is easy.

Step 2. Start > %appdata% > .minecraft > bin

Step 3. Replace the "minecraft.jar" from the .zip file with your current minecraft, jar.
Step 4. You're done. Enjoy!
If you're asked if you would like to update, choose not to update.
