Amethyst Geodes and Crystals are new blocks and items that will generate in new cave biomes in the 2021 Minecraft 1.17 Cave and Cliffs update! They have been added in the first Minecraft 1.17 Caves and Cliffs Update snapshot, snapshot 20w45a.
Amethyst can be found inside Amethyst Geodes in two forms: an Amethyst block and budding Amethyst. Amethyst geodes can be found anywhere underground in the Overworld in Minecraft. They are covered with a layer of new stone block called tuff and a second layer of a new block called calcite.
Amethyst clusters grow from budding amethyst inside Amethyst geodes. Amethyst clusters can only grow when placed on budding amethyst blocks. Fully grown amethyst clusters will drop four amethyst shards (and more with fortune) when mined with an iron pickaxe or higher if used. Clusters can also be silk touched at any stage.
