Apart from simply a truckload of experience orbs, lapis lazuli pieces are also essential for enchanting items in MC 1.8+. While enchanting your precious gear, have you ever wondered why the creator of the game chose to use lapis as an enchanting ingredient and not other minerals like emerald, gold or iron(okay, not the last one, it seems incredibly ridiculous feeding iron ingots into an enchantment table)?

The answer to that question is that, among quite a few other minerals and substances, lapis lazuli is one of the most commonly mentioned minerals and gems in ancient religious services and testaments. For instance, below are a few examples of how lapis lazuli was used religiously in ancient times:

1) Apart from commonly being used to decorate mummies by the ancient Egyptians, lapis lazuli was considered a good material to fashion amulets used for protection against evil spirits. The garments of priests and royalty were also dyed blue with lapis to represent their being one with the gods. Dying your leather armor blue with lapis might just be worth it...

2) Lapis lazuli was also mentioned a couple of times in the Old Testament (Exodus), and was referred to as "sapphire". They didn't have a name for the mineral back then, so it was simply left unspecified.

3) Apparently, the ancient Thai also believed that using lapis lazuli in accessories and ornaments would result in he opening of something called the "Third Eye", and supposedly balances one's energy. Well, for all I can say, it WOULD be quite swell if holding a piece of lapis in your inventory would result in an extra eye or something.

4) Lapis lazuli also happens to have a meaning in divination - apparently, dreaming of lapis is interpreted as the signification of faithful love. Faithful love of jewelry, more like...

Lapis lazuli was also mentioned quite a few times in the Epic of Gilgamesh, even though it doesn't really have anything to do with religion - I just wanted to point that out.

Leave a diamond if you liked this post! Or, even better, a chunk of lapis...xD

It'd be cool if you made an MC Logic on redstone. How would it be if it existed in real life? Would it be possible? What would the redstone block have that powers redstone, exactly? This would be a pretty cool article.

Nah...Cleopatra used powdered lapis for makeup. She wouldn't have done so if it stank.
