Next is to choose which version of Minecraft Java Edition you want to use. All the downloads are .ZIP folders containing the folders and files required to change the music in Minecraft.

List of available downloads:
- Notice: 1.16 only works for 1.16 and 1.16.1 - Any other version of 1.16 needs to be the 1.16.4 resources.
- Notice: 1.18 has been updated to be compatible with both 1.18.1 and 1.18.2, if you have the old version (pre 12/03/22), you may encounter errors.

When you have renamed all of your .ogg files, you can move on to step. 3

Step. 3
Placing the .ogg files in the right folders:

Open the Resources Java (The .ZIP folder) you downloaded, and unpack the .ZIP, onto your desktop. From there, open the folders in the following order:
  1. assests
  2. minecraft
  3. sounds
  4. music
( Resources Java > assets > minecraft > sounds > music )

Depending on the names you gave each of your .ogg files, you will now need to place them in the correct folders so that Minecraft can find your new .ogg files. You can use the list below to see where each file should go.

When all the files have been placed in their respective folders, then you can move on to step. 4, and test it out!

Step. 4
Get it into the game!

Open your Minecraft launcher, and set it to the version you chose, and load up the game.
Once you're in the Minecraft menu: Open the menu's in the following order:
  1. Options
  2. Resource packs
  3. Open Resource Packs Folder

( Options > Resource packs > Open Resource Packs Folder )

A folder will have opened up on your screen. Drag the Resources Pack (Version) folder into the newly opened 'Resource packs', and close it.

Inside Minecraft, go back to Options, and back into Resource packs. There will now have appeared a resource pack.
Click on the logo to turn on the resource pack.

You can check the FAQ section below for, How to test if it worked

      That's it!
If you have any questions, leave them in the comment section below and I will answer them as best I can.

      FAQ & Common issue's

"I changed some of the background music but it never plays." (How to test if it worked)
      - Minecraft has a random chance of selecting 1 track to play in the background every morning, noon, and night of Minecraft. There is also the chance, that nothing will play. You can check the list in step. 2 to see which conditions each song must meet to be played, and if you want to make 100% sure that you did it correctly, you can test it by using the "/playsound <sound> <source> <targets> [x] [y] [z] [volume] [pitch] [minimumVolume]" to test it. You can use the Minecraft Wiki - Music page to check the in-game names of each sound.

      "E
verything is .ogg and named properly and some work others dont."

      - Double check that you have not used any capital letters in the naming process. If a .ogg file is named anything with a capital letter in it, then it won't register in the game, and the music won't play. Remember: everything needs to be small letters, otherwise it won't work.

"How do I change the music discs in the game?"
      - I have a tutorial on just this matter which you can check out right here: How to Add Custom Music (The Easy Way)

labyrinthine.ogg, firebugs.ogg and aerie.ogg arent changing even though i replaced them with another track.

      EDIT:

I figured it out, those 3 tracks need to be in its own folder called "swamp", you might need to add that to the description

by any chance is there supposed to be an overworld folder in the downloaded version you're supposed to download? because when i downloaded it there was only the end, the nether, creative mode, and underwater nothing to do with the overworld/survival mode

If you look under the "List of Placements" in the blog, you'll find that the overworld music should be placed in the "game" folder. The overworld does not have a named folder, as the game folder is for the overworld :)
