Somewhere in the woods...





I sighed, I couldn't believe that Steve said that he'd seen Herobrine. I told him to go to the mine, but he's always scared to go alone. So I thought he made it up to avoid going. I had this feeling that he wasn't lying, but I tried to ignore it. I couldn't. Especially since I sent him back into the cave. CRasH!!!! I jumped. Alarmed, I ran to the window to see what made the noise.
"Huh?!!" As I pulled back the shades, I stared. Nothing was wrong; not one thing out of place. The fence was strait, and so was the garden. So where did that sound come from? I rushed and grabbed a few torches and my new stone sword.
"Nothing’s wrong, but why is it so cold!?" I noticed that there was frost creeping around the edges of the windows and the door. I walked toward the door. I turned the knob; it wouldn’t budge. Nervously I twisted it harder. The knob turned slightly. Encouraged, I turned it even harder. With great effort I was about to open it! Then I heard something. It was hard to hear. It sounded far away. About the same distance as the mine. I stopped cold. Did I really want to go outside? I hesitated, but I couldn’t help but be curious about what was out there. Plus, I couldn’t leave Steve alone. Decision made, I opened the door and was nearly knocked down by a blast of icy wind.

“What!?” I gasped. As I steadied myself with the door. I looked around and couldn’t believe what I saw. Everything was covered in block high snow. I gaped I couldn’t help it, It’s never snowed here before. Something flashed, and as I turned I saw Steve’s diamond pickaxe half buried in the snow.

“Huh Steve’s pickaxe?! But...but where’s Steve??!?” I looked around the forest but I saw nothing. It was too hard to see anything. I heard something, though. It sounded like a scream. I snapped my head around and squinted. I could see a faint glimmer of light in the woods. I grumbled.

“Great... J-just great...” I looked around hoping for somewhere else to go, but I couldn’t find anything.

“It’s F-Freez-zing!” my teeth were chattering so hard my bones shivering with them.

“T-The shed my win-t-ter gears inside of i-it!!” I turned around and shuffled toward the shed. The knob turned easily. Strange? The knob moved without any trouble, not like the one at my house!?! Could someone have been holding the knob before!?! No, I’m just scaring myself. I slipped inside and closed the door behind me.

“Ahhh, I feel so much warmer!” I rubbed my hands together while looking around for my gear.

“Ah found it!” I sighed as I pulled some green, fur-lined, leather boots on. I picked up a matching green cap and shook off the dust. I heard a loud smashing sound. My heart stopped. That sound as from my house. I felt around with my hands and found a peep hole. I put my face up to it and peeked through.

“Oh my God!” I almost screamed. There stood Herobrine picking up Steve’s diamond pickaxe. He looked at the shed. I froze.

“No no no no!! I’m not here. Go away!!” I whispered! I bit my lip. My heart was pounding so hard; I thought he would hear it.

“Deep breaths deep breaths!” I gulped down some air and counted to ten. I peeked through the hole but Herobrine was walking away.

“Oh thank God,” I breathed. Then slumped against the wall. I looked at Herobrine then thought about Steve.

“Hmph! He must have Steve! Well then, I know what I’m going to do! I am going to follow him!!!” I muttered. I waited till he was almost gone then slipped out of the shed, and then I started to follow…….




In the middle of the wilderness…




The sun was just starting to rise above the flat horizon, making the pond twinkle. I looked up.

“Day 3 of following Herobrine,” I sighed. It’s been harder than I thought traveling across the world. I’ve found food here and there. I have also obtained some jerky and carrots from trading with some stray villagers. I stored that food in my backpack. Still, hunger is twisting at my stomach. I reached into my backpack and pulled out my map and some dry carrots. It is a makeshift map, made out of a piece of cow hide, and some sugar cane I sewed together. I looked at my progress. It was a rough sketch of one mountain, three rivers, two lakes, and one forest. I’m a long way from my home. I still need to find Steve. I won’t go back without him. I find it strange; I haven’t seen Herobrine the whole journey. Just a trail of destruction. It’s almost impossible to imagine this beautiful place on fire, and in ruins. The trail, it seems to be going on forever. I stood up, and looked around. Soon it will be all over, Steve and I will rebuild somewhere unfindable, and new. Maybe even have a pet dog. For now I shall follow and wait to see where this leads me. I started to walk, following fire and death…

“Alex, I’m telling you what I saw,” I couldn’t believe Alex wouldn’t listen.

“Look Steve, I know you’re afraid of going alone, but don’t make up such tall tales,” Alex scoffed.

“But!” I felt dread creeping up my spine.hh

“No buts!”

“Go back to the mine and get some iron!”

I sighed, there was no way to change her opinion. I was going back out there to mine.

“Oh Steve, don’t look so scared. Herobrine is just a myth!”

“Fine,” I looked up. Alex was stubborn, she wouldn’t budge on most things; when it came to Herobrine there was no way I was going to get her to listen. I stood up, as I turned she said.

“Look, I know you don’t like going alone, but I need to work on fixing the furnace!”

“I’ll go, but you’re going to get wood next time!”

“Ok, deal!” I opened the door and stepped out.

“Oh well,” I looked around, suddenly feeling watched. I walked until I reached the old pathway that led to the mine. Snap! I jumped. I turned around and took a fighting position. Another snap of a twig. It was coming closer. The bush across the road moved. I backed away, still ready to fight. With a final snap of a twig, a squirrel hopped out and ran up a tree.

“Uhg!” I sighed. Relived, I looked around making sure nothing else was wrong. I felt something cold hit my nose.

“Huh?!” I looked up. To my shock I saw snow!

“Snow!?! It never snows here, even in the winter!?!” I found myself walking a lot faster. I was not cold. I was, I admit, scared. I finally reached the mines entrance and found myself staring into pitch black.

“Huh!? Where’s all the torches!?” I reached into my backpack and pulled out some torches. I heard a small click and I looked up. I squinted and i saw all my torches were there maybe even more than before.

“Hello? Um, anyone there?!” I felt confused, the torches and the snow, something wasn’t right. I heard a strange noise, like a loud crash. I turned around alarmed, I tightened my grip on my diamond pick. I felt scared and nervous. I hated these woods. I hated this cave. Everything was so worrisome. I heard something else too; it sounded like laughing. I tried to turn, but I was stuck. I couldn’t move, and the laughing grew louder. I struggled more and more. Suddenly I felt a hand on my shoulder. I yelled and then everything went white.
