Hello, mist13 here, reviewing the latest addition to the Technic Launcher!

Hack Slash Mine is a completely new game mode that focuses on the combat portion of Minecraft. It adds things that enhance or change the game completely, like class systems, realistic leveling, a new UI for inventory, new dungeons, new biomes, rpg-esque skills, new armor slots, new weapons and items, and new mobs. Though it seems like a lot, one can actually go through it pretty fast.

You start by making a new world, but upon creation you're forced to choose between ranger, mage, and warrior. This decides your starting inventory, along with your starting skill point distribution and skills. You gain less experience per kill, but it doesn't matter once you get started. Each mob also has a level now, which is important considering the correlation between your level and your damage dealt. There are also new "magic rods". These have unlimited use, and fire a specific element of damage, though the damage is low, and at high speeds.

The new mobs are nothing to write home about, just a few variations in skins, they all act about the same as faster zombies. One amazing aspect though are the rare monsters. Once in a while you'll come across a stronger, special version of a monster with a different name then their colleagues. They usually drop some pretty amazing things.

Every time you gain a level you get a certain amount of SP points, which you can distribute between different attributes (str, dex, will, etc.). Each class also has unique skills. The ranger, for example, can shoot 3 arrows at once, another skill launches tnt. They vary between each class, and can be very useful in a pinch. Unfortunately, you access your skills by using a hotkey while crouching. This denies you the ability to build while crouching along a large drop.

The new biomes and dungeons are mainly just XP farms, but if you clear them you can get some (minor) loot.

The inventory overhaul is probably what I dislike most about this mod. In order to give the player access to more armor slots, the inventory has been put into small pages. You actually have to sort through 4 different pages to find your stuff. In minecraft you access your inventory pretty often, this is pretty annoying to at least me.

Overall, this is a fun, light hearted mod for someone who wants to spawn a world they will never use the next day. You get to kill mob after mob, and actually feel rewarded for it. It's worth trying, but it may not be for everyone.

You can download it with the Technic Launcher at technicpack.net.

Happy slaughtering!

That's a pretty odd coincidence: I was just playing this through the new YogBox/Technic launcher. I thought it was pretty good, adding levels, XP, classes. It'll keep me bust for a while ;)

It's interesting, but not enough depth for me. Though I can't really play vanilla minecraft because of how empty it feels...

It's a nice new take on Minecraft. I don't play a lot of Vanilla, so I'm not really missing much. I'm usually PvPing or laoding up my .JAR with mods.
