Choosing a Job Through Your Minecraft Experience

I know this is a little late for all those who already chose their colleges for next year, but I hope this will be a good help for those who will need to decide what to major in in the next few years. Choosing a career path is difficult, and not many people are sure of what they want to do by the end of high school. Ito s never too early to start thinking about the future, so hereo s a little help from a guy that chose a major thanks to Minecraft.

Minecraft can help you realize what you are interested in based upon what you do in game. Here is a list of typical activities in Minecraft/ PMC and possible majors/jobs you may be interested in.

Builder- You love to make buildings, bridges, roads and so on.

Architect- The obvious choice. You need a lot of creativity here, and should consider taking art classes throughout high school.

Civil Engineer- This one is my major. Civil engineering covers a broad range of Jobs. As a civil engineer, you can build bridges, dams, foundations, roads, and buildings. You need to enjoy math as you will have to take high level calculus. Civil engineering is more about the physics behind structures, where architecture is design and building codes.

Redstone Master- You can do anything with redstone and love making complex contraptions.

Electrical Engineer- Design circuits and complex power systems. Understand how electronic systems work.

Computer Engineer- A combination of electrical engineering and computer science. Develop computer hardware and software.

Computer Science- Create computational systems.

PvPer- You love to pwn mad noobz.

Professional gaming is a career choice, although as far as I know you cannot go to college for it. I suggest you have a backup plan in case things dono t work out.

Pixel Artist- You love to create images in Minecraft with simple blocks.

Graphic Designer- Create and combine words, symbols, and images to create a visual representation of ideas and messages. In this field you can create signs or logos for companies.

Server Moderator- You either own or help run a server.

There are site moderator jobs out there, though I warn that they do not pay well. I am also not aware of any major that can help you get a job in this area.

Modder- You love to create mods for Minecraft.

Computer Programmer- Create programs/code. If you are a modder, you know a lot more about it than I do.

Software Engineer- Develop software (set of machine-readable instructions, most often in the form of a computer program, that directs a computer's processor to perform specific operations)

Game Design- If you can think of good changes for Minecraft, maybe you can think of entire games.

Skinner- You love to create skins

Computer Generated Imagery- Create 3d models for games. Not many schools offer a degree in CGI, so you might want to do something related like computer science or graphic design. (Not exactly sure what you would major in, but there are definitely jobs out there, do a little research of your own)

Blogger- You enjoy writing things for the world to see.

Journalism- Inform the public of current events.

Blogger- Not a major, but is a career choice.

English Major- Can probably get you where you want to go in the writing world.

Communications Major- Very easy major. (Sorry, engineers have an inherent hate for communications and business majors) This helps you get a job with public relations, social media, journalism and related jobs.

If you are currently in any of the fields I mentioned, please help me give a better explanation of the field. (And correct me if I got anything wrong) Also, if you have anything to add, please let me know. If you have any specific engineering questions I should be able to answer them. Thank you for reading and I hope it helps!

Moderators are usually skilled in communication and negotiation. The obvious job is "online community manager". More generally excellent soft skills is very promissing for your future but probably not in gaming.

I think I have a problem ;w;
I can't decide what coding language to start learning, as in 6 or so years when I'm 18 and in uni It'll help.
I want to either design in commandC (Ios), C++ (Computers and xBox), Java (Computers and android phones) or whatever the hell playstation runs on, or even whatever wii U or 3ds runs on.
Either way, I want to make a videogame epic :L

Lua code would be good to start off with because it is so simple. Lua programs work on PCs,
Macs (I'm pretty sure), and the iOS platform (iPhones, iPods, iPads, ect). I am not too sure about Android though.

Mm, yeah.
I used to make advanced roblox games when I was like, 8, so I have some experience with Lua.
To be honest I found it too easy, which is why I'm currently using youtube and open-source programs to teach myself C++ and Java, both of which are very good coding languages. Java's a bit more limited but I find the projects I make in it are often much more simple, whereas C++ is harder to learn but the game can have a lot more... Stuff.
So yeah, I'm gonna learn C++ and Java, just because. o3o

You could start small, making apps and games for phones. It's an ever expanding business. Then move on to the coding language of whatever your favorite gaming system is
