The blood rushed to my head. I couldn't think, straight, couldn't think. It, was, sort of something, it was...
And there we go. I was actually inside space! Looking out the side, I saw what looked like a spherical object. No, not just spherical, it was also blue. Blue and green. I pretended to be holding the Earth in my hand, thinking about the journey, the adventure, and the meaning. I turned my pale face towards the other members of the crew.
"I know I signed up for this. I know I was garenteed safety, but is it true?
Brock, the engineer, looked at me with a concerning grin. "Yeah. We'll be fine."
Something wasn't right. Behind my smile, behind my thirst for adventure and curiosity, there was a spirit, tugging on my shoulder. That spirit kept calling out to me, pleading I reverse time. To the time when it was just me, a job, and my son. Oh, my beautiful son. If only I could say goodbye.
"Hold on."
"For what?"
"For dear life."
The pilot pulled the lever, accelerating us to speeds I could not imagine. We went so fast, I couldn't hear anything. We had broken the sound barrier, leaving the shouts, screams, and yells lightyears behind us. Still accelerating, I looked out the window and saw my son. He loved me, he really did, but that last goodbye didn't make it. If I had put forth the effort into saying a few words, the guilt would lift the weight off and walk away. No, the guilt wouldn't walk away: It would run.
"Is everyone okay?" The pilot asked, sounding insecure. I was about to nod my head, just until I turned to my left. Brock wasn't strapped in completely; he missed the neck lock. His gory helmet floated inside our shuttle. I couldn't help but burst into a wailing cry.
"Nooooooo!" I didn't move. I didn't move one muscle, except for my eyes, jaw, and fists.
"There wasn't anything we could do," Morgan said. She put her hand on my cold shoulder. My eyes went into a dark stare towards the floor panels. I didn't say anything or do anything, I didn't want to hurt anyone expressing my anger. Months go by and we pretend like everything went on forward as normal. It started to feel like Brock was just a dream. A distant, unrecognizable dream.
"Happy new year," I said. "Happy birthday," Morgan told me. "Merry Christmas," The pilot said. Happy new year, happy new year, happy new year. Time flies when your not having fun. I walked out of my seat and looked out the front. The pilot looked at me.
"You know, this is what space will do to you. You have to remember you signed up for this. Do you remember any descendents of yours, like a son or daughter?"
I slightly nodded. "Yeah. His name is Jacob. I never got to see him go to high school, college, get a job, get married. I didn't even see his funeral for God's sake!" I sobbed. "Realativity can be b**** sometimes, you know!"
"Don't forget that even though you didn't say bye, he still loved you. You still love him. That's what makes love a wonderful thing; it never fades."
Just before I said thank you, I thought I saw something fly past the shuttle. "Astroids. And a LOT of them! Everybody get strapped in!"
I quickly ran to the sleeping pod, it was the only way I could get past the trauma.
The small titanium fold of thick metal slowly shifts away from my head. Crumbled and like a prune, I stepped out of the pod. I look at the clock above the door that leads to the control center. 3042... That's nearly 3 centuries!
The pilot, still there, looks like a heartless machine, with his small mechanical eyes, driving us into... What is that? Is that a... That's a star!
I run into the front if the shuttle, bursting with confusion. "Are you insane? You're heading right for a star!"
"No star, ju-jus-just a light. Just a bright, shining light. It's asking me to come, it wants me. I want to bond with the light!"
Before I said anything, I realized he actually WAS insane. The thrusters, I thought. If I can manually shift the thrusters from the shuttle to a slight angle, I can move us away from the star! I opened up the pod bay doors and jumped.
Can't hear anything, just see. Arms moving, jetpack blowing. Feeling heat, not a sound. Burning sensation. Moving towards thrusters. Look back towards the star. We were already there. My body was engulfed in a bright white flame.
"There I am," I said. "At the center of the universe."

Loved the story, it was well written and interesting, one thing is you might want to a little depth of what the character is seeing, like what the other astronauts look like, how big the shuttle is, etc. Other than that, great story
